Just about done with my son's AK!

You may have seen my earlier post regarding building a Californicated AK for my son. I started with a Hungarian AMD 63 kit built on an ITM MK99 receiver. It was a screw built rifle that actually worked out especially well for a fixed mag build. The rifle has SA85M handguards and gas tube which is the only lower handguard that will replace the metal lower handguard without modification. I used a Hungarian 20 rd mag modified to have a follower depression lever that also acts as a positive 10 round stop. I cut a slot on the right side of the mag, drilled the follower and installed a 5/16 socket head allen bolt as a lever. It will be welded in place to cover any issues about changing it back to high cap, as the follower will not be able to be removed without cutting up the mag. I used the 20 rounder to allow enough room for the lever to work without having spring bunching problems. I notched the safety lever to catch the bolt handle and hold it open for loading and for range safety. It loads through the ejection port surprisingly easy when you hold down the follower. Unloading is a different story, as it requires cycling the ammo through the rifle or pulling the carrier out to fish out the rounds. To fix the mag, I pulled the 10-32 screws out that were installed in the rear of the front trunnion. These holes lined up with the upper front portion of the magazine. I marked the mag through the holes in the receiver and trunnion, drilled it and reinstalled the mag. I ran the 10-32 tap through the trunnion holes so the threads in the mag would be continous with the trunnion. I then installed 10-32X3/8" button head allen screws in the holes and tightened them. It pulled the mag tight against the mag catch to the point it takes a lot of force to release it. The mag will move down 1/4" in the rear, but that's all. I'm going to fill the allen sockets with a drop of black epoxy, so a tool can't readily be used to remove the mag. Compliance parts are: G2 FCG, US receiver, FSE floorplate and pistol grip. It will also have a Bulgarian Krinkov flame arrestor, as I can get away with it on the fixed mag rifle. I'll post pics as soon as I can get a camera and take some.

I have no idea what you just said, but it sounds awesome nonetheless. Make sure you give us pics when you're done.

You should just buy a 10rd mag. It sounds like yours could be converted back to standard cap without destroying the mag.
