Is an AR Bullpup Stock a Possibillity?

    Hello,

I was wondering if a California compliant OLL AR stock could be designed with the configuration of a Bullpup stock.

    Any thoughts?

    I don't think I've ever seen a bullpup without a pistol grip.

How would the fixed mag work?

A search for the word, "BULLPUP" brought up this thread.

I suppose you can swap out the flash hider for a muzzle brake and replace the pistol grip with a SRB( http://www.srbtactical.com )to make it CA legal.

There is a HIDEOUS bulpup stock in the makes (was it from ACE?) that could be used with AR receivers. There are two major problems:

        1. Most bulpup designs do not break open like the AR platform making loading from a fixed magazine very difficult.

        2. Most bulpup designs would be awkward at best to hold without a pistol grip/thumbhole stock.

Also a minor problem would be length. In california the rifle would need to be 30" or longer, and since most bulpup designs are created to have the shortest overall length with the longest barrel length possible you suddenly have to use a longer barrel than it was designed for or add a muzzle device. It honestly isn't worth it in my opinion.

If you REALLY have to have a bulpup get a rimfire that isn't restricted by the AW laws, and if it needs to be centerfire go with a bolt action. Turning an AR into something it's not is more novelty than anything else and chances are you will regret the extra money you spent on it once the 'new toy' feeling wears off.

If you're dead set on getting a bullpup, either rimfire or manual action is the name of the game. I tend to favor a pump action over bolt or lever for a bullpup, but YMMV.

A much better choice would be to wait for the FS-2000 to come out, close up the hole in the stock, and then replace the flash hider. Extend the buttstock if need be.
