    Converting AK to Saiga?

Did some searching and wasnt really able to find much on the subject. My understanding is that you can switch out the ak stock for a saiga sporting stock no problem. The issue I am reading is the trigger being to far forward and would need to be moved back. Curious if the trigger can indeed be moved back? Have any of you guys done this? If so would the switch be as easy as buying a Saiga stock and trigger group?

Sure the trailer can be moved back, assuming you had a Saiga trigger group in the first place.

You can go back but since you do not have the original Saiga trigger, you are going to have to buy it. It has a “linkage” for lack of better terms that is need when you move the trigger location back. I have kept one Saiga original and converted the other.

            Why do that? For compliance?

OP - you should message a couple of the reputable AK builders to see if it's feasible, like Two Rivers or HIT Armory in Upland.

If I'm remembering this correctly, a Sporter Saiga has a small bit of the rear of the receiver chopped off to make it standard AKM length? If so, then that could be problematic if you're trying to turn a standard AKM into a Saiga-looking rifle

Why not just buy a saiga? Sell the AKM.

^Not true.... you’re thinking of the Vepr slant back

OP, Its doable if you have all the parts and the ability to drill holes in the right spot

Apex has the stock and trigger parts. You would still need to find the trigger guard. The hard part is going to be be the locating of the new trigger pin holes, hopefully someone can take some measurements of them for you.

There was someone on here who did the same as you’re looking to do, a few months ago. Do a search of the Gunsmithing forum, he seemed to have the location of the pins figured out.

^^^ This! For the price you'll pay someone to do the conversion you can buy one. You can still find Saiga's, you just have to look around.

Is an SKS an option for you? Seems like an easier approach.
