    AR Trigger Recommendations?

I am building one AR15 and one Armalite AR-10 (.308). Both rifles need to deliver top accuracy and will opt for the best trigger for shooting off a bench or possibly some prone work. I do not anticipate needing quick follow-up shots.

First decision is single stage or double stage. I have shot both, and could get used to either, but frankly saw no real advantage to the two stage. But, will listen to explanations if others feel it is superior. Maybe I am missing something.

For two stage, the Geissele appears to be the top choice. For single stage, the choice is less clear, but was looking at JP Rifles. They also offer a hi-speed hammer. Given the price of triggers, and the importance for accurate shooting, I want to be sure I opt for optimal trigger for my use.

    Thoughts?

Timney 3lb single stage gets my vote. A two stage trigger is much more accurate than a one stage from basic LPK's. I've heard great things about Geissele's, but haven't used one yet.

I am also a fan of single stage triggers only because I need a consistant feel every pull becuase my shooting varys from slow prone controlled to fast rapid fire from close range.

I use a timney 4lb and love it

I had some problems with my Timney, but they have a lifetime warrenty so it's back with them for repairs.

I've tried both single and double stage triggers, and agree with the other two here, single stage all the way.

Note: I may be selling my Skeletonized Timney when I get it back if anyone is interested (3lb)

While I like the plain old RRA 2 stage, I'll admit my ARs are more for fun than anything serious or challenging. I've used the Chip McCormick single stage and think it is very good. Clean, crisp pull - almost makes you forget you're shooting a semi auto.

Personally I'd go with the Geissele Trigger. I have 2 and absolutely love them. Here my my reason for having 2 stage over single stage. Regardless of shooting via Iron Sights, Red Dot, or Scope I like 2 stage because you can depress the 1st stage and have a second to hold your breath and focus on sights before depressing the second stage. Single is great however un-trained trigger fingers may not squeeze straight back to the rear with a single, where as 2 stage allows that extra bit of time to eliminate any form of movement before depressing the second stage. Ultimately it's your choice so go with what works best for you.

My recommendation is a Bill Springfield tuned trigger. He can take a stock trigger down to 3 or 4 lbs. (your choice). He can be found at www.triggerwork.net. The best part is the price in comparison to the other triggers mentioned. A 4lb. trigger costs $35 and a 3lb. trigger costs $50.

I have 1 of his triggers set at 4 lbs. for my AR-15 and it is great. In fact, I just mailed him 3 more triggers to work on yesterday.

I have a Geissele SSA, I prefer it over the Timney 4lb I got rid of. I felt that the Timney was too light for my purposes and the single stage was not what I really wanted in my rifle. The Geissele has a nice feel and a pull that is constant at about 4.5 pounds. If you need lighter there is the adjustable Geiselle for about double the money, the SSA was about $150 or so.

Actually not sure. The first trigger I bought from him was a complete set. He had that shipped to me within 24 hours via Priority Mail. As I said, I just sent him 3 more AR triggers to work on. I can let you know when I get those back.

on the Timney 3lb. Although I have limited experience with other triggers, I really like the Timney.

If you do get a Timney, one thing you might consider is putting in a KNS anti-rotation system along with it. That way you don't have to install the screws into the trigger. Those screws can be a PITA to install.

I am going through the same process. I just ordered a Jewell trigger for my .308 AR. A bit cheaper than the Giselle, well reviewed and actually currently available.
