    bullet button

am i right that you can buy a featureless ar in CA with a push button mag release. If so why cant i sell my standard S&W ar that now is featureless with a push [ BB ] mag release. Both release the mag.
what the hell is the difference between a push button and a BB.?

No difference. No features, then no AW.

Not that I am aware of.

In the AW Registration regs they just redefined what a "Fixed Magazine" was.

Yes, the bullet button is meaningless, it is not illegal it just simply does not count as a fixed magazine now. To avoid confusion you could put on a standard release and the buyer would appreciate it, but nothing stopping you selling it.

So i can put my S&W M&P 15 in the long gun for sale section . It is featureless with a BB.Why does it state in plain english after Dec 21 2016 semi auto rifles with a BB are not legal for sale in ca. Go to for sale long guns ,it is the first thing you are warned about ?. If it is not true why doesn't the moderator remove it.

Because technically a rifle with a B.B. would have had features and likely registered as an AW which you cannot sell in Ca registered as such. If your rifle is and was featureless this whole time there was never a need for you to install the B.B.

Mods are trying to help people avoid committing a felony by offering for sale an illegal assault weapon. You do not have one.

Look at post 14 in that thread - http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...7&postcount=14

More precisely, and I just edited that,
                    a semi-automatic centerfire rifle

with 'features' (flash hider, pistol grip, collapsible stock) and

ONLY a 'bullet button' to make the mag 'fixed'

is now an 'assault weapon', because the law changed to redefine 'fixed'.

IF one has modified the rifle to have a new-definition 'fixed' magazine, the 'bullet button' is just irrelevant.

IF one has registered such a weapon, with the 'bullet button', CA-DOJ says you cannot take it off.

                      Yes and no...
The bullet button is not a feature.
The statement is framed around the silliness of a featureless build having a bullet button in the first place.

The ONLY thing that changed in 2017 is that the bullet button ceased to be a legal compliance device for a featured build. The new law did not change the features that define an AW, only the type of magazine release that exempts the gun from AW status.

Featureless builds are not and never have been AWs, therefore, have not ever been required to have a fixed magazine (which the bullet button DID provide until 2017).
You can sell your featureless build same as you can a 10/22.

The M&P 15, out of the box, was a featured build that required a BB to be legal from 2001 to 2017.
If the evil features were removed, then the BB was no longer required.
As long as you have a fin grip, fixed stock, and no flash hider or VFG, it is featureless. Replace the BB with a standard magazine release and sell it

My S&W 15 was originally made and sold with a adjustable stock, flash hider and pistol grip. I converted it to featureless at the time of DROS. It never was registered as a AW. Still confusing why the bullet button is ok if converted to featureless. I do not mind or want to replace the BB

Again, since 2017, the bullet button has no significance at all, and on a featureless gun never had any purpose.
Before 2017, rifles with 'features' need a fixed magazine to be legal.

A bullet button used to provide a fixed mag.

Starting 2017, a bullet button does not legally meet the definition of fixed mag.
No features == no fixed mag required == no bullet button or other device required.
