Very cool. Thoughts on uppers? Stocks?

I am wrapping up a build this month as well. Went the other direction. Bought the upper first (impulse buy as it was on clearance). A Noveske Recon Hunter upper all tricked out. Now I am finally getting around to picking up the matching lower. Going featureless on this one as well. My other 3 are registered. Figured they knew where to find me with all the handguns I have registered, so it didn't make much difference.

Looks good so far. Since these are featureless builds do you plan on going with a pinned collapsible stock or a fixed stock?

Nice! Both rifles sound great. Stag makes good stuff. Looks like you’re headed in the right direction...Although it’s a damn shame that our rifles have to be neutered with those grips.

I haven't decided but the two stocks I like the best are the Magpul MOE Fixed Carbine stock and the MFT Minimalist stock (pinned), so maybe one of each.

The MOE Fixed Carbine stock is nice, but the LOP is very short and that makes using our grip awkward and causes more "chicken wing". It also leaves little to no room for your thumb to wrap around. If you do go that route, we suggest modifying your buffer tube with a groove or hole on the bottom for you to mount the stock further back like this...

No matter what stock you use, it is best to have some exposed buffer tube behind the castle nut to give some room for your hand.

Here is a video we did of a cheap way (that is completely reversible) to fix a Magpul adjustable stock...

Or use a #8 sheet metal screw like this...

I'm confused.....Is it legal now to build an AR? As long as you make it compliant?
                I thought you just couldn't after 7/01....

Yes, if its a bare lower thats been dros'd, you should build as many as you can as long as they dont meet CA's perverted statutory definition of "assault weapon".

80%s need to be built a different route, more state .gov interference.

                  I thought you just couldn't after 7/01....
That was the registration deadline for bullet button ARs.

How so, if you don't mind? Can one mill a 80%er, add an upper, make the magazine fixed, and be legal?

I'm sorry we even have to have this conversation.....

If going the Magpul route most will also stay locked by swapping the spring within the adjustment mechanism with a plastic anchor.

Here is what i referenced before on pining the MFT stock.

First, I love this stock. For the money its a no brainer. It is very light and built very well. The only thing I saw that could be made better are the plastic ears for the fork lever, I show that below. This was an alternate to the Ace Skelton stock I wanted and saved me a bunch of my by keeping...

Best of luck on your build

I went with this system with my Magpul adjustable stocks.
The kit is no longer available, but you can just cut down a finishing nail. I wish I had.

                          I know what you mean.

If you want to learn more you should search for 80% build threads, because there is a lot of detail (already there) that can easily jack this thread. Just note that some of those threads were happening at the same time as the "assault weapon" registration, so don't let the different [i]types[i] of registration confuse you as you are reading those threads. The "AW" registration window is closed and should not be confused with DROS or VolReg.

Basically (in very simple terms), after Jan 2019 you can't have non-serialized self-built lower. Every lower requires a serial number. AND, you can't just make one up and put it on there... you have to ask for one = VolReg (Voluntary Registration). This may not be EXACTLY right, it's ok, go look it up.
