    Serial #

Is it illegal to engrave the same serial # (and city, name, caliber) twice on the same lower?

My pre-anodized engraving looks kind of faded so I want to engrave the same info on a different location after having anodized the lower. Want to make the serial as conspicuous as possible and meet the ATF engraving depth requirements. Problem is I can't trace the previous engraving.

Anodizing should only add a max of 0.0001" to the material, and is often MUCH less. Your engraving has to be 0.0030" deep. If the engraving was done properly beforehand, the thickness of the Anodizing won't get you in trouble.

Assuming the depth isn't satisfactory, does anyone know of a rule about the serial number marked only a single instance per lower?

If some manufacturers engrave the serial and additionally microstamp it elsewhere, I don't see this being a problem.

I just engraved my today here in the bay area.

The guy told me that I could have the same serial number as long as I changed the model number. For instance Model AR-1, Model AR-2, etc..

I just chose to do all different serial numbers.

EDIT: Sorry, I read your post wrong. I thought you meant different lowers.
