AR-15 Rifle length gas system and stock

    Hey guys,

Want to say first off, pardon me if this topic has been discussed. I've tried searching for it with a plethora of different terms in different order to try and search the forum but I just couldn't. If there was indeed a topic(s) created on this subject already, please direct me that way and I'll be out of your hair!

So, I am looking into putting an 18 inch upper on my AR with a rifle length gas system on it, but I don't want to go fixed stock like the old A2 design. Can I set it up with an adjustable stock or will the buffer system not work well with the rifle length gas system?

I currently have this buffer set up:

Would this be able to work with a rifle length system or would I be better off looking into something shorter with a mid length?

The length of the buffer tube/receiver extension is irrelevant to the length of the gas system. Your carbine receiver extension can function with a 16" carbine gas setup, an 18" midlength or rifle-length setup, or a 20" rifle-length gas setup. Or at least it should.

And you don't need to change the buffer weight either.

Your linked kit will work fine.

The rifle length gas is as soft a AR shooter can get ( in respect to gas system length )

Thousands of people have done what you are asking.

You will find the AR gas system's are EXTREMELY tolerant of buffer weights and spring weights.

Keep it lubed and you'll be happy

If you decide you'd like a heavier buffer weight, as many have... I'd suggest the KAK Configurable kit. You can readily adjust the weight and , well , configure it the way you want.

I have one of these in an 18 inch rifle with a rifle length gas system. It works well.

The BCM MK2 recoil mitigation system (RMS) Mod 1, T1 includes a MK2 T1 buffer, M16A4 action spring, M4 lock nut, MK2 receiver extension, & QD end plate.
