    Help getting 1st AR

Just getting into Defense sport rifles. I see a midwest industries 556. Online It has adjustable stock and 30 rounder(i know they would not send) No evil forward grip.
I know its up to the seller to ship here but if he is ok then how does the kydex wrap pistol grip thingie work?

Do i buy and install at home or does the ffl shop have to install?

Does anyone know where to buy a Midwest industries with needed ca legal stuff on it?
Anyone been to solar tactical in livermore? About hour away.

Hey thanks guys just trying to get my 1st AR b4 one of the democraps replace moonbeam.

Any rifle must be in non-'assault weapon' configuration before it crosses into CA.

Your selection is more limited, but it's 'safer', at least for 2018, to buy from a CA dealer. There's a chance they will know what's legal to sell.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

There are out of state FFL's that can make rifles California compliant for a fee. So you get and evil rifle, its shipped to them, they unevil it and send it to your California FFL. I know this works for used rifles, never done it with a new rifle so I'm not sure if it works the same way.

You can go with featureless or fixed magazine options. For a rifle to be featureless, there will be no flash hider, no pisyol grip, no folding/collapsible stock, no forward grips, etc. So the fin grip (or wrap) is a means to not have a pistol grip but still use the rifle.

Alphacat armory and EBR works will do conversions for you. You send the evil rifle to them, they will nueter it for you and send it to your ca ffl. Call them, let them know its coming first

The hellfighter seems hard to do malfuction clearing.
Basically just looking for rifle to train outa state with, can those grip fins be removed or do you have to cut off? I have a m1a socom that has been good in several classes but the 308 ammo costs add up.

Could ebr pin folding stock, install fin, permanently weld muzzle break on threaded barrel(damn&#128533 am i missing anything? Heres pic its for around$1000

                      @Lifter015

Would recommend just getting it from a CA dealer, or checking out the marketplace here on Calguns and doing the paperwork at your local gunshop.
There are ways to get it legally shipped here, as mentioned already in the thread, but it takes a bit of research and a few extra bucks.

One motivation you might for looking out of state is to save on sales tax. FYI, while you may find a deal on a cool firearm that is located out of state, California will force you to pay sales tax on it when you do the paperwork, so you won't be saving any $ on the tax.
You can avoid the sales tax on an out of state transfer if you buy from a private seller who is located out of state and is able to send a compliant firearm to via FFL -> FFL, transfer. They'll need to include a letter stating they're not a dealer and a copy of the DL, otherwise the gun shop will charge you the "use tax".

I suggest talking to local dealers and researching more - your grasp on the laws seems a bit loose. Or just buy off the marketplace here.

Ok cool, i'll check it out.
Should I get a piston or gas AR? (why are some called a "gas piston"? M1aSocom has a "piston" but I can feel the gas from bottom?

                          Thanks for everyone's help.

Just starting out, 1st AR, just get the regular gas impingement system. it's fine. piston stuff is like once you're at level 2 and you can even appreciate the difference. A piston AR costs more.

search youtube for "gas vs piston ar 15" and you'll see all manner of info about this, some of it might even be good.

Don't be afraid to ask "dumb" questions, as everybody's gotta be a n00b at some point. lots of good youtube channels on this stuff, check them out.
