7.62x39 uses more raw materials than 5.56x45 does, both for the case and for the bullet.7.62x39 also uses more powder.
More 5.56x45 ammo is likely sold than 7.62x39 ammo.

It stands to reason that 7.62x39 would be more expensive.

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
      Most work performed while-you-wait.

I guess youve never bought steel cased x39 before to know that they normally costs 30% less than cheap plinking 223 in brass. Thats been my experience for years.

Outside CA, the price relationship is still the same, only in Cali is it inverse. Which is why the question is posed, why in socal?

Think that's bad try finding non magnetic ammo i.e. brass cased or steel case with copperjacket ammo. I'm gonna have to order once I finish this case of wolf yellow box 7.62x39

Call around to find a reasonable ffl fee and order from targetsports.

You seem to just want to argue instead of accepting good advise...

You need to relax, bro, you seem to be picking a fight with everyone for no reason. I'm sure your next reply will be the same type of thing directed towards me.

It is expensive because people are still buying it and California is now a seller's market for ammo. I don't know why that needs to be repeated again, but maybe you don't want to believe it. The market dictates pricing; supply vs demand. The supply is low and the demand is high, do the math. The alternative is reloading. Buy more expensive rounds now that are brass-cased and boxer-primed (prvi partizan, fiocchi, etc.) so you can reuse them later. Even the $15/20 Winchester white box from walmart is a good place to start if you need to start now.

If you don't want to reload and since you don't have much choice in the matter of dictating pricing to retailers, you can move to a free state per Randall's suggestion.

Got my fix from a couple CGers. With the top off, I’ll be good for a carbine match or two and a couple years of occasional practice. I haven’t figured a way where it’s worth accumulating x39 reloadable cases. The retrieval of cases at matches alone would be a nightmare, and the wastage.

So glad I didn’t have to import. Research also brought up a 500 round limit/month. When it gets really difficult, my x39 rifles may end up being collectibles that don’t really get used. So much easier to buy or accumulate more common cases for reloading..

It's still cheap in Arizona. And Las Vegas too.

Yeah. May reconsider importing. Really bummed SGAmmo gave up on CA.

Hopefully, the online Ammo to FFL system gets better. Not betting on it.

My lgs is gonna do the Ammo ppt, I’ll be the first. Not really confidence inspiring.
