    Modifying a featureless grip

I understand that the point of the featureless grip is to prevent the thumb from going around the grip below the line between the receiver and the top of the grip.

However, to have a more secure grip of the rifle, would it be a no-no to MacGyver a ring on the fin in order for the rifle operator to have a more secure hold. With only 4 digits minus a thumb gripping a rifle, I can see many accidents waiting to happen.

I do not see why a ring would be an issue, same as grips that offer a thumb shelf.

I use hammerhead grips and grind finger and thumb grooves to make them more ergonomic.

There was a similar thread recently. Consensus was that most didn’t want their thumb “bonded” to the rifle. Let’s say something cause you to lose your grip and your thumb stays in the loop as your rifle falls. Imagine all that torque on your thumb. Ouch.

Very good point mb. I tend to agree. The thumb shelf works great for this very reason.

My view is if you are running around with a rifle, you should ideally have a sling on. When I have done carbine courses, I never felt the rifle use unsecured, even with a fin as long as the sling was on. Just my take.

Is this a fighting rifle or a fun rifle?

In fighting, guns get taken and a loop should be something that does not take the thumb if you were to trip and fall or worse, get disarmed or even have to dump the rifle to transition to hand gun
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
              (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

If I ever have to fight with my AR it will mean the S has truly hit the fan. In other words the situation will be so bad that the government has either completely failed or is trying to kill me. In either case my guns will quickly be converted to standard configuration because complying with idiotic gun laws will be the least of my concerns. So I guess all my rifles are fun rifles until the situation warrants that they become fighting rifles.

Dems hate Ergonomics. Can I get a Dr. Note to keep my original grip and keep it featureless? :Troll:

OMG. Of all the hoops we gotta jump thru in Calif. Sad.

How about using a ring either large or small enough (depending on shooter's hand) to eliminate the possibility of a hung thumb.
Or, making a thumb shelf and rivet it to the kydex.

Strike Industries Mega Fin. Not cheap, but the thumb shelf gives you a nice place to grab the grip. So far, I really like how it feels on my AR.....if I had any.
