Romanian SKS is not cycling last round... PLEASE HELP

Hello all.... hope everyone had a fun and safe weekend!

This weekend I took me Romanian SKS out to the Desert ( it was FREEZING COLD btw) to have a little fun, and I noticed that I was only getting off 9 shots (the last round would not cycle).

I should mention that I have a Tapco T6 stock system, and was still using the original factory 10 rd. fixed magazine (I dont know if the stock would make a difference). Now I took a good hard look at the gas return tube, and it looks good, operating rod is functioning fine....

Any help would me much appreciated!!

    Thanks in advance.

Based on what you stated, I would suspect the magazine. If you just load one round, will it chamber that round when you cycle the action? My guess is no. Try swapping the mag out and see if that makes a difference.

try it with the OG stock first then try a new mag.

I would also say its the magazine, weak spring is not pushing the last round far enough up. I quick fix for now would to be remove the spring and pull it to try and extend it slightly. If this works, buy a new mag spring to replace it.

I willl definately try all of the above.

First I will try to extend the magazine feed spring,

Secondly I think I will put the original stock on it, and see if that works.

I also have a Tapco 10 rd that I havent tried either. So I will definately do that.

Thanks for all the advice it is much appreciated!!

I will update the thread when I find a solution.

Is the bolt catching with one round left, or is the bolt fully cycling and just missing the last round?

The bolt is catching like the mag is empty, however when I look in the breach.... sure enough there is the last round.....

I really hope that it is not the gas tube, but as soon as I get home from work I am going to try the above mentioned remedies.

Thanks for helping me get this situation resolved!

Is this a fixed magazine SKS you have? Fixed magazine + 30 rounder = AW. Also...assemble 30 round SKS magazine from rebuild kit to manufacture a large-capacity that you didn't have prior to the ban took effect on 1/1/2000 is against the law in CA.

What he said...don't do that! Try that 10-round you mentioned. If that fails, too, then it's likely not the magazine. If you can, borrow a 10-round magazine from a friend, which functions well in his rifle, and try it in yours. If you still have this failure then you have ruled out the magazine.
