After 10k that bolt and barrel extension have worn together pretty well, no?

Better check the head space if you replace the bolt.

      Swap extractor and carry on.
No need for any hand wringing on this. Keep same bolt.
*there is no adjusting an AR headspace. Go-No go check when introducing high mileage barrel to new bolt. Swapping bolts is the only thing you can do to headspace correct an AR/M4 etc..

new bolt and an extractor build kit works. Definitely rebuild that old bolt at least to have a spare.

You can get a nice plated complete BCG off PSA for less than $100.00 Do that, fix the other and keep it as a spare. Every AR should have a spare bolt anyway.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

Confirm headspace with the new bolt before using it on that high mileage barrel. 10k+ is a goodly amount so the current bolt + extension are well mated to each other.

At 10k rounds, replace the bolt and barrel at the same time easy to do! Good on you for shootin that much! At 10k rounds, chromed barrels are usually very close to keyholing, so definitely look into replacements

Retool the old bolt and keep it as a spare.

That was actually my main reason for not just putting in a new bolt. I didn't want to mess with potential headspace issues just yet. I'll continue to run the old bolt until it fails on me and then i'll put in a new bolt and check for headspace. Who knows...by that time...i might replace the barrel as well. Accuracy is still phenomenal on the bcm midlength bfh barrel...so it may well last me another 10-15k rounds.

I do run mid range ammo that is much lighter than standard factory so that will most likely help in terms of barrel life as well.

So if you drive a car 200k miles you should know how to fix all issues? Or know the name of all of its parts?
