Shoot it alot, thats seemed to be the only way i improved. And use iron sights, they are not simple like some people think. Niether is a scope. Both have to be learned and practiced. I love shooting with irons.

best way to get to know your rifle would be just shoot it(trigger time). if you want better accuracy after you have gotten to know your rifle get a stage 2 trigger and a free float tube.

If your looking for accuracy, then a match trigger or 2-stage, and match ammo for starters. Mostly trigger time to learn the intricacies of your particular weapon. Don't forget a sling!

Well, if you want a real tack-driver it makes more sense to start with at least a 20" barrel. The fixed, M16-style stocks are also much more conducive to accurate shooting than the telescoping ones, because they allow a nice tight stock weld. Some of the aftermarket stocks with adjustable comb and length-of-pull look really nice, too. Though I haven't shot one. Insane accuracy (well under 1MOA) is possible with this platform but you're going to pay, and the manufacturers that make such things tend to make them in the longer barrel lengths. Olympic Arms is well-known for accurate AR's. Others can probably suggest some other good ones.

I'm just finishing up my first AR build (I shot M16's and M4's in the military if you're wondering how I have any experience...) and it's an M4-gery. The next one will be a 20" or even 24" bbl varmint gun, built for accuracy. I'm not worried about tack-driving with the carbine, that's not its philosophy of use. If I can keep within 3" at 100 yards that will be just fine, and I fully expect it to do so. It may even shoot less than 2", I don't know yet.

You can get a match trigger or have a trigger job done if you really want. I'm perfectly comfortable with the stock trigger, it's what I learned to shoot with. YMMV.

                  Have fun!

parts dont make your rifle accurate, you need to spend time with your rifle, when i first built my AK i was grouping about 10 inches at 50 yards, and now, 250 rounds later im at 4 inches at 50 yards, ive been shooting for a long time too, ive found that you need to get comfortable with each weapon, not just weapons in general. skkeeter is right too, get a sling and learn how to use it.
im building my first ar right now, i wanted it for accuracy, so im going with a 20" with stock grips, and a2 buttstock, i think im even going to keep the trigger. like reidnez, i learned to shoot in the military.

its hard to explain how to use it, there are a few ways of looping your arm and/or hand through it for leverage to hold the gun more steady

Also true. The weapon is only as good as the shooter, and even expert shooters are rarely good enough to get the *full* potential out of their weapon, because the body is limited as a stable platform--that's why they invented bench rests. Even the pulse from your heartbeat is going to move that muzzle a hair. If anyone doubts this, get into the prone with a loop sling on your arm and crank it down, then sight in and watch your front sight post.

So yes, training is absolutely the most important investment in accuracy you can ever make, and there is simply no substitute. Lots and lots of shooting.

here, this should be a good start on sling use
The proper slings to use as aids to accuracy are the u.s. Military M1907 sling or the U.S. G.I. Web sling (cotton version) the long strap is the piece that aids accuracy. The short strap is there to aid in carrying the rifle.
