so i know there are a lot of legalities around everything gun related, but i have a question about pmag rebuild kits. did the pmag exist before the hi-cap ban? or is every legal and civilian owned pmag going to be a 10 round?

Did the PMag design exist before the 2000 high cap mag ban.......NO. But the lucky CG's who have preban high cap mags can rebuild them into the PMags, Lancers, HK, etc.
BTW, PMags were created in 2006.sigpic

does anyone ever check this? can someone buy a re-build kit, assemble a 30 round mag, and say they had it before the ban? HYPOTHETICALLY or is some proof needed? this doesnt apply to me because i wasnt old enough to own a mag in 2000Comment

No. Pmags didn't exist back in 2000. They didn't even become widely available until around 2006, so how can one claim he had it before the ban?"Profanity is the inevitable linguistic crutch of the inarticulate mother****er." Bruce SherrodComment

Physically it is totally possible, but the act itself is a crime. The burden of proof lies with the prosecution, but that doesn't make it worth it to me. You don't need proof, but if you are a younger guy (like me) you would definately draw some scrutiny from a LEO. It is a crime to assemble them into high caps(in that manor) so I would not do it. There is no reason though that us younger guys can't have a whole bunch of re build kits sitting around for a rainy and dangerous day.

So you weren't born before the year 2000? There is no minimun age to own a mag. And what they are saying is that you could have a pre-ban USGI mag that wore out and you rebuilt it with new Pmag parts thus making a Pmag that is really just replacement parts of an old USGI 30 round metal magGod, grant me the serenity

Confused about what? If you have a hicap mag before 2000, then u can continue to have it and use it. if you don't have that hicap mag before 2000, you cannot get one now. If you have a hicap mag before 2000, and it broke, you can repair it, as simple as that. What someone else has is their problem, none of your business.- LL

gah, so many laws, so if in 7th grade i purchased a bunch of hi-cap mags, i could use them today and it would be legal? i thought you had to be 18 to buy mags or rounds or a rifleComment

This would be a felony
and there was never an age restriction on buying magazines so yes you were old enough if you are over 9 years old now"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas JeffersonComment

confused about that. does this mean you if you own a legal 30 round ar mag from 1999 or older and you beat it with a sledge hammer, you then buy and assemble a pmag as a "rebuild"Comment
-
Yes you just had to be alive on Dec. 31st 1999 and you could own standard cap mags. Its 18 to buy ammo but no minimum age to buy magsGod, grant me the serenity
