5.56 IWI Galil ACE

My 7.62x39 shoots high. Haven’t heard of these issues with the 5.56. They are built pretty solid though
If you need wraps for the 5.56. I got em. They are different than the x39 and x51 versions -

I hope to pick one up this year. need to find a local shop that has it in stock.
can the stock be swapped out? since i don't want to have to deal with pinning and all that, so i want to just install a non-telescoping skeltonized stock like the ACE stocksOriginally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... Find a middleman and have it shipped in for cheaper. Audiophil2 comes to mind
I swapped my stock out with a standard galil stock with some minor filing to get it to lock up correctly

I picked up the 5.56 version at the last Big Reno Show. It's front heavy as reported, although MI has lightweight handguards that might at least mitigate that. It's solidly built. Mine came with a windowed Pmag IIRC and all mags that I've tried lock in and drop free without issue (standard mag catch, I'm not in CA anymore). With the weather being non-cooperative lately, I haven't shot it yet; hopefully the good weather will hold for the next couple of days and I'll get it out to the range on Friday and get it sighted in.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

Pm'd you...it's more or less a direct fit on the existing ACE stock knuckle. The pain is removing the pin and getting it back on. It helps to have an extra hand or 2 around when doing it.
in short...use something to push the pivot pin up from the bottom. It's spring loaded so it takes some force.
Once you push up the pivot pin you'll see an E-clip that you need to remove. Don't lose that clip.
Remove the pin and spring. Remove stock. Reassemble in reverse order and remember not to curse too loud if trying to do it yourself.Comment

ditto on this. since the oem galil stock is pretty much exactly what i want to change it to.So as not to derail this thread, would you mind dropping me a pm at your convenience re. The stock swap you did. I’ve been thinking of buying a standard Galil stock too and would like to hear what you had to do to mount it before I buy one from botach. Thank you.

and concerning sending it to a middle man to do the conversion to make it CA compliant, do i need to send all the parts to Phil or would Phil have it all in stock and i just pay him the conversion fee?
Edit: just checked atlantic and they have it in stock again. they offer a compliance package which pins the stock, removes the flash hider and provides a thread protector and a fin.
i wonder if they will still send the flash hider thoughLast edited by Scratch705; 03-29-2018, 1:35 PM.Originally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... I did, finally getting it sighted at 50 yards. Iron sights were no problem, but I could not get enough elevation adjustment out of a Vortex Viper on a 1/2" riser to sight it at that range. Removed the Viper, installed it on a Glock and it sighted in at 25 yards with no issues so it's not the sight's problem. Going with the irons for now as I contemplate whether or not I'll pay for a Meprolight. I don't really want to add a bunch of weight to an already heavy rifle so might choose something smaller and lighter.
Recoil is nil, what you'd expect out of a rifle this heavy. At 50 yards from a solid rest, 3 round groups were just about touching on the rare occasions that I could get my old eyeballs to do their job. Average was just over 1 inch at 50, so I expect 2 MOA or better with a proper optic. The trigger isn't anything to write home about but it is better than any factory AK that I've ever fired (OK, that's not saying much, either!). I was using a mix of Remington, Winchester and Blazer bulk ammo, no malfunctions at all. Tried several different flavors of Pmag and a couple of GI aluminum mags also. All locked in and as noted before, no malfunctions.
I'm kinda liking Munkeeboi's stock setup; I'll have to be on the lookout for an original Galil stock. The factory stock is okay, but the snap on riser is not so hot - once on, it's hard to get off without damaging the locking notches on the stock comb that the riser locks onto. Bet you can guess how I know that! For the handguard, I'm leaning towards the MI offering.
Overall, I give it an A-, mostly for the stock. I wouldn't hesitate to carry it as a life preserver if needed.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment
