Nope, it won't qualify under CA law.

Manufacture doesn't advertise or claim it's a flash hider; they go out of their way to state it isn't one. https://aimsportsinc.com/default/cal...zle-brake.html

Small hole close to the bore dia. on the end. IIRC Kalifornia says a fh has a large opening, and is silent on the type of porting used.

It dosen't look like it's designed to redirect muzzle flash away from the shooter's line of sight, another ill-defined difference between a mb and a fh.

With the very little guidance the despots in Sacramento give us, that looks like a muzzle brake, and I'd personally feel comfortable using one on a featureless rifle.

OK guys we need to delineate the difference between a FH and a MB

A MB Has a hole in the end that is close to the size of the bullet that goes thru it.

An FH has an open end.

The style of porting makes no difference. What makes it a MB is that the gas blast has a wall to hit to mitigate recoil to some degree. Obviously there are various levels of efficacy de3ending on design, but the gas hitting a wall or walls at 90* in relation to the bore is what does all the work.

If you look at the Muzzle devices on large artillery style guns you will see that the vast majority are simple plates stood off the muzzle with a hole for the round to pass thru.

They have been working that way for over 100 years ,,, that's all there is to it and nothing new here.

This part is a MB, period.

And Turners doesn't have any and doesn't know when they will.

Barring manufacturer claims, DOJ defines a flash hider as hiding flash from the firer's field of view.

I have a similar brake for my HK.

When fired in broad daylight, the flash is so bright it looks like someone put a sheet of white paper in front of the front sight.

At night you can probably see it from orbit.

I think it qualifies as a brake
They do an okay job of braking. Loud, but not as loud or effective as a PWS FSC.

This is something I never understood. The std M16 flash hider, when timed properly, has a port facing vertically upwards. It the flash comes out of this port, how is this keeping the flash out of the shooter's line of sight?

If that's really the definition of what constitutes a flash suppressor in Cali then that is dumb as ****.

The point of a flash suppressor is so OTHER people, i.e. the bad guys, can't see your flash.

Where did this definition come from. Is there a source? I've never heard that definition before.

As far as I knew, the 2 things that make something a flash suppressor in Cali is an opening significantly larger than the bore size and a stated purpose of flash suppression by the manufacturer.

Kind of hard to write a good law when you don't understand the subject of the law in the first place. This is not isolated to gun laws, there is plenty to go around on virtually every subject of legislation. When you have morons writing laws it is inevitable that they become hard to understand or enforce.

Pretty sick of people who know nothing about a subject, writing laws that affect that subject. Seems like the height of stupidity.

Maybe they should be made to take a test to show they understand the technical aspects of a subject before they are allowed to write laws or even vote for Legislation.

That way less of this stuff would get contested and we could all breath a sigh of relief.

                      Probably not gonna happen?

It came from the DOJ and went through the public comment process and was ultimately revised in 2000 to what we have now.

The A2 has an upward port, but by design reduces flash quite effectively. The only better FH units are the pronged ones (BE249, Vortex). The ports allow air to mix with the hot gas and mute the flash- I'm sure another member can go into the physics of it.

Closing off the front with a plate starts to vent gas THROUGH those slots instead of pulling air from them. Now you get the bright flash.

The closed bottom was an attempt to reduce dust signature when prone and create a minimal compensator effect.

They are also used to reduce flash for the firer- this is especially important for the military at night when they are using NV goggles.

Not necessarily true at all. In fact, the first flash suppressors/hiders, mounted on machineguns, etc, were nothing more than simple metal cones on the ends of barrels.
