Using steel cased ammo in M1A?

Just wanted to know if anyone runs steel cased ammo (wolf, brown, silver, goldenbear) in there M1A. IF so how does it do? I have heard not so great things about AR type rifles with steel cased. Just want to see if the M1A would run steel case with no problem.
    Thanks.

I am sure it will function, but I never shoot steel cased or steel jacketed ammo in any of my guns.

You sure can, but I say 'no' for the following reasons:

      1) steel casings dont expand in the chamber like brass, so you get blowback in the action of the gun because the casing is not forming a seal allowing all the dirty gas in the chamber rearward. whats great about the M1A that nothing except the chamber/barrel gets dirty.

      2) over time steel casings can possibly cause more wear in the chamber than normal brass

steel is cheap and do what you want, however if you do decide to shoot steel, make sure you stick to steel in the same session. if your chamber is gunked up with blowback from steel and resin from the steel coating, when you fire a brass round, it will expand in the chamber and gunk and jam pretty much every time so. if you are gonna shoot steel, clean before you shoot brass.

Alot of people see the word "Steel" and automatically think its hard as hell. Remember that there are mild steel and high carbon steel. The ammo made steel cases are mild steel. Which is much softer then the steel used for the firearm. You can actually bend the cases with out alot of force just as a brass case. I've shot too many Wolf steel cases in my AR and SU and not once have I ever felt a small gas leak because it didnt seal as well as brass.

If steel was all equal, a steel soda can could with hold a strike from a high carbon steel knive/sword...but it cant because not all steel are created equal.
IMO, I think people dont like Commi's so they dont lke to support their product. Well, at least that is what I hear from alot of forums when it comes to steel ammo.

This conversation always lends sometimes to a bit of heat. You can shoot steel case out of your m1a, it's going to work. However your manufacturers are not going to recommend it. You also are going to read about how it is more stressful on the extractor and chamber, and you will read about the issues if you are mixing brass and steel in your shooting sessions due to slower fire forming expansion of steel versus brass.

I think it is up to you on what you want to buy and shoot.

To speak personally, I shoot only brass ammunition. Main reasons are for reloading potential and for the small factor of feeding reliability I feel I want. There is plenty of brass ammo out there for me right now enough to keep going that way.
