    California legal bushmaster question

    Hi Guys,
I recently found this great website and I have a question. I recently got to examine one of the California legal bushmasters and was wondering if there was anything permanently attaching the (what appears to be)10 round mag to the reciever? It appears to just be trapped beetween the floorplate and the bolt stop.Is this correct or is there something else attaching it? Also,Does it use a standard 10 round mag?
    Thanks,

There is also a rivet holding it in at the front of the lower receiver.

It does not use a standard 10 round mag. It is a 20 or 30 round mag cut down to size. There is no floorplate. The bottom of the spring rests on the closed magwell.

Edit: If you're thinking about removing the bolt stop and replacing with a 10-round mag, I don't think it would work. I know for a fact a C-Products 10-round would not fit in there. It would have to be a really short mag to fit. Perhaps a match type flush mount might work. If you plan on removing it the original mag, watch your face.

I have looked at the California Legal Bushmaster and Colts, they do not have a mag that is pinned in. The only thing stopping the mag from coming out is the bolt catch. If you take the bolt catch out, the mag will pop up and you can take it out to clean it. No pins or rivits. This is not the plastic reciever from bushmaster, these are the ones modified by Evans Gunsmithing and sold by GB sales. They are very well made, but very expensive. A gun store down the street from my house has a ton in stock on the rack. A full rifle is about $2500.00.

They claim that they can open the mag-well making them fully functional again when you leave the state. For that price you can simply buy a high quality lower for dirt cheap outside of Ca. Heck, you can buy a high quality lower legally for dirt cheap inside Ca.!

I assumed he was talking about the Carbon-15 California legal rifle. It does have a small rivet through the front of the receiver and the mag.

Once the rivet and bolt catch are removed the mag (or what's left of it) will pop out of the top of the receiver when the mag catch button is pressed.

I was referring to the carbon 15 actually. Thanks for the replys. What I am considering doing is a fixed mag conversion from an OLL and wanted to mimmic a approved design as closely as possible for legal reasons. Since the rifle I will be building will be to practice service rifle position shooting the gripless products are not really options.
              Thanks,

i have PERSONALLY experienced this. My buddy and build partner (solidsnake87) owns one of the bushy c-15 and as you can see in his pictures, it is easily modified into accepting detachables. everything everyone else told you was true, you dremel out the magwel and that little retaining pin/rivet, and then i havent had any problem putting mags in it.

                HOWEVER

its a $1000 rifle. and it has no forward assist or dust cover, and the carbon looks like crap. if youy wanna spend alot to have an ok rifle that you have to modify, be my guest. but if you want to spend less and have much better rifle that you dont have to modify, get an OLL and start building
