I need to buy a scope of some sort or sights for a Mini 14 target model. Something that can work up to 500 yards. Any recommendations?

Absolutely best value for the money. I cannot praise it enough. I have very high end optics and the glass on these are are on par (not surprising since they come from the same factory in Japan where the Nightforce and HD2s are manufactured)
I have the 1.5-8x version. Absolutely love it. Great eye relief. Clarity is on par with my Leupold VX6.
I saw this yesterday and had to kick myself to not buy it.Last edited by Mongoose556; 01-26-2018, 6:38 AM.Comment

I think this Leopold was in the $350 range when my wife bought it for me for Christmas. Set up for the 55gr M193 round. Spot on for range adjustments on the the Scout that it is mounted on.
On the bottom end of the price line is this Bushnell, an $80 scope that does just fine at the range. It is 1.5x4.5 made in Korea. I wouldn't go to war with it but it is more than adequate for range fun.

For what a Mini was actually designed to do, I'm thinking a $50 Simmons is all you'll ever need.
Seriously.
Don't get me wrong, I love mine, but be realistic here:
a Mini will never be a tack driver.
Unless you handload, have a match grade heavy barrel, a trigger upgrade, and gone to sniper school, your chances of hitting a barn at 500 yards is about as realistic as Gavin Newsom becoming a card carrying NRA member.sigpicComment

I have a Kel Tec SU-16 that I believe is almost as accurate as the Mini 14. I put a cheap UTG Bug Buster ( https://www.amazon.com/UTG-3-9X32-Bu...=SCP-M392AOLWQ ) on it and I think I like the scope better than the rifle.Comment

I like good glass. Something you will want to keep and switch to a different rifle.
Nikon makes some great target scopes.
I find it is easier to spend more for optics than it is for the rifle....
It is harder emotionally to spend on a scope what one can spend on a case of match ammo...or two cases of match ammo.
What does Gold metal match go for these days face to face retail (post internet sales)???? $1.25-$1.75 / round

I would say the SU16 is better than the Mini14 in the accuracy department. At least i was able to hit a 12" gong at 500 yards consistently. My mini and my range buddies mini couldn't hit the frame of the target stand at 100 yards even if our lives depended on it.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment
