Anyone here using an aluminum vertical grip on your AR?

I just installed the KAC RAS handguard system, but the KAC vertical grip is just too narrow for my large hands. I have seen that Troy, Falcon Industries, and Mako make some sturdy looking aluminum VG's.

If the Knights grip is to thin, try the Tango Down quick detach foregrips. They're a bit beefier. Good luck.

Try a CQD from Bravo Co....I did a para cord wrap on one and it looks and works great...

Tango down is a good way to go but they are plastic. I'm not a fan of the quick detach....the lever is in my way. Overall Tango downs are a nice grip. I have an extra in FDE standard size if your looking.

I have a RRA monopod grip that is aluminum but its on the skinny side.

The CQD is probably the best one out there at the moment.

The bad thing about aluminum VFG is that they get HOT, really really hot if you ever shoot outside in the sun; which being in California is sort of unavoidable. Or if you shoot in the cold, either extreme heat or cold will make the thing impossible to grip with your bare hands. You'll end up having to wrap it with something or another after a few range trips. I've got a Young Manufacturing one that's slightly thicker than a KAC that I still keep, but that was the problem, it would get so hot as to be untouchable when I went shooting outside.

This is why most VFG are made from polymer as alloys and metals are not something you want to put your body part against. Note that the two parts on any AR that you put your skin against are also made of polymer: the pistol grip and stock. There was a run of aluminum CAR stock early on but that was the problem, enough eat or cold and your face would be in for a beating. I keep it consistent and figure decades worth of refinement dictates why skin contact areas are made of polymer.

Good point. Plus, the pistol grip itself is polymer/plastic, so why not have the vert grip polymer too...

                Aluminum Front Grip

Larue makes a nice one of these, Includes several screw on bases that let you adjust the length of the grip.
