    Ar side cocker question

Any idea what the bolt at the rear end of a side cocker upper does?
It's screws in the rear top end where the charging handle would be on a conventional upper. The bolt has a round knurled end which is used to thread it into the hole?

That space the bolt occupies is where the gas key slides out of the receiver. It just "plugs" the hole.

I was told that it just needs to be snug, correct?

You can buy a replacement plug if you lost the original one. Here is link to MidwayUSA for a spare kit for AR Stoner side charging upper that includes both the plug for the rear of the receiver and the side charging handle.
