Wanted to see what the general feeling on putting BUIS on a rifle with a non QD scope mount. The rifle is a Palmeto State Armory PA10 with 18 inch barrel w/ Leupold 3-9x40. I like options but not sure if it makes sense being the mount needs a tool to be removed. Thanks in advance.

Rifle deployed in non-battle situation + reputable scope = no need for back ups.
Unless you plan on shooting often enough with 45's to become proficient, I wouldn't bother spending the money.Originally posted by longrange1my gun shoots better with shiny brass...plus not only does the shiny brass make me look like a pimp at the range if the sun catches it just right it blinds the guy next to me which improves my odds of winning the match.Originally posted by XDJYoFull size. Go with the offsets. I run them on my M&P 15t with a PA 1x6 ACSS. Once dialed in feel like a true operator once and for all. Mainly because most of the time you are running your scope a close to full magnification anyways. Makes for a quick transition to close quarters.
For a .308 pattern rifle a scope might be all you need anyways.Comment

Depends on the rifle and purpose. My lightweight carbine has plastic magpul back ups. Primary sight is a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4x, I use this carbine for hunting medium game such as feral hogs. Usually I'm stuck walking quite a ways to my spots, and it's just a whole production to even make it happen so it's worth it to me to have these back ups just in case.
That said on top of my varmint rig is another Leupold scope with no back ups. If the scope is having problems I'll just call it a day as irons aren't much help for me when shooting squirrels at close to 200 meters.
I don't worry about QD mounts because I carry a multitool on my belt if I'm ever in the field.Comment

I have a 6x+ scope on my rifle. Shot a bear at 16 yards with my buis...it was 45degree mounted.
Basically, if you're using it for range, no need to.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment

pure range toy, nah as others said above. unless the types of ranges you goto are those that are far away and in the middle of the desert.
i went through this debate with my spr-style ar15 too. whether to pick up buis or not, and i decided to not for now. it is my range toy, and if the scope goes down, that just means i don't shoot it for the day. i don't goto ranges that are too far from my house so it isn't a big deal my shooting day is cut short.
oh and for me, if i was to pick one up, it would be an offset buis. if your optic goes down, who is to say you can get a clear sight picture looking through it from your iron sights? just make sure to practice with offset sights before depending on them.Last edited by Scratch705; 12-02-2017, 1:32 PM.Originally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... The likelyhood of needing them is minimal for me. YMMV.
Using the scope's 3x setting will get you all the accuracy you need for close targets. Mind poi.
I can see the value of 45 deg buis on a compitition 3 gun setup tho.

Magpul pro offset is the slimmest oneComment

My setups:
US Optics SN-3, no iron-sights
Schmidt-Bender Police Marksman, no iron-sights
Leupold Mk IV, no Iron-sights
You buy the right glass, you can guarantee that you won't roll up to the range and have wasted all that gas when your scope is fogged up or you lost zero because the crappy scope you bought is a POSComment
