Everyone I know that has one likes it. Think I might get one too, probably better to put the wear and tear on an AO and help keep them in the M1 Carbine business.

Later production Auto Ordnance (post 2010 or so) were much better than the early ones. The first couple years they had horrible QC. In 2007, I worked part time at a gunshop, and we returned 4 out of 4 on warranty issues. From what I understand, however, that has improved quite a bit. I would look for a USGI used mixmaster on Gunbroker. They are pretty indestructible, and have forged receivers, bolts and slides. My 6 digit inland (50s mixmaster rebuild) is 75 years old and going strong.

DO NOT BUY THE NEW CURRENT "INLAND" CARBINES!!! THEY HAVE NO RELATION TO THE ORIGINALS, OTHER THAN USING THE NAME, AND USE ALL CAST PARTS, WITH NO QUALITY CONTROL. SOFT BOLTS DEFORMING AFTER 100 ROUNDS....

          I own two of them.

The first one I got I also bought 1000 rounds of ammo as well.
We took that gun on a 4 wheeling trip the following week and I shot every dang round without a hick up. I never even cleaned it from the box.
Its still my wheeling truck gun and still going strong.

Bought a second for the wife and although she hasn't abused it near as much it too runs like a top.
I would not hesitate to buy another.

That pretty much sounds like what I have heard about the recent ones. I do know their fit and finish has improved a lot. What year did you buy it?

What do people feel about other remakes of the 30 carbine - like Universal, Alpine, and others?

I REALLLLLY want a USGI, but if the AO (or other remakes) will work for me and my kids, and their kids, might as well buy it instead of the $1650 for a mint condition USGI... Right?

Someone said the new "inland" carbines are bad? Is that true? AO better?

              Thanks.

All generalities are mistaken (including this one) but nearly every review of a commercial M1 carbine includes the phrase "others came close but these guys got it right ....." Soon to be followed by an explanation about a problem the author assures us the factory will correct at a later date.

I saw a fair number of good to nice M1 Carbines at a recent Reno show between $800.00 to $1,100.00. That's not too much more than the better commercial ones.

Even with a mixmaster, if someone asks you about the gun you can honestly reply "it's the real thing". The AO or new "Inland" will never be the real thing...

To me, the delta in price for a new AO that may or may not look right or work right and a USGI gun is a drop in the bucket.

I'd bet that a large percentage of "original" GI carbines are mixmasters anyway. Back in the 90's gun shows for every complete carbine for sale that looked intact, there were 10 parts sets. There were mail order outfits that sold complete sets, except for receiver, for $200. Those mountains of parts got put together into lots of carbines.

Auto Ordnance M1 Carbines are $675-750 on Gunbroker.com. For that price you can get the real thing, which will always be more desirable than any commercial version, whether judged by quality, historical interest, or collector value.

                      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

You can buy clean rebuilt ww2 m1 carbines for cheaper then the modern crap that hardly fits usgi parts. Get a rebuilt one thats arsenal re-finished and shoot the hell out of it. They dont have a big collectors value being re-built and possibly replacement parts that didn't go on it when new in the 1940s so shooting it won't matter, or hurt its value.
