    CMP Information

I'm not sure that I am posting this in the correct forum. If not, please forgive me - maybe the mods can move it to the correct place?

Anyway, I am interested in the CMP. Can anyone give me some information and guidance as to where I should get started and what the requirements are? I have visited the CMP website, however I am interested in the experience of anyone who has already traveled the CMP road.

    Thanks!

Are you looking to start competing in High Power? Or are you just looking to buy guns through the CMP?

      CMP- Civilian Marksmanship Program

      here you are:

it's a great way to go. Weapons are reasonably priced, not much paper work and UPS just throws it over the fence if you don't answer the bell...

I'm really just looking to purchase, but it was my understanding that in order to purchase through the CMP, you had to be a 'member' of some sort. Is this true?

Join the CPRA and you'll meet the "membership requirement" part.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I'd rather have the OP join the Garand Collectors Assn. Especially if he wants a Garand.....

I've got 8 years of service in the US Army, do i still have to be a member of a club or affiliation, or will the military service suffice?

You still need to join a club I think, but being a servicemen gets you out of the "proof of familiarity with firearms" or being in a competition or match. The clubs are cheap, they're like $10 or $15 for the year.

tango5, I served in the marines, which quals us for "firearms training"
we dont need to shoot 50 rds and get signed off by a range master.

You still need to join a club though, I joined GCA, its only 25$ a year, not much to get all the garands you want in a year!

This link is very helpful. Thank you. It appears that any LEO can witness your shooting and sign off on the form. I'll have to get one of my LEO buddies to go with me. Thanks again for the info.
