I ended up getting a pair of Decibullz from Amazon for about 25 bucks and molding them myself. I can do a whole day at the range and forget they're there. Much better than a pair of standard plugs, but aren't nearly as nice as an electronic pair with amp/cutoff obviously. They aren't connected together, but stay in well so I've never worried about losing one.

I was checking into those as well, and it looks like the sell a lanyard on their website if that matters.

You won’t happen to be related to Beldar.

Haven't looked in a while, but it used to be that the generic tapered foam plugs had a higher attenuation factor than just about anything else, when inserted properly. You have to roll them as tight as possible, then insert them past the curve in the ear canal.

I use Moldex Softees; they're good for multiple uses, and easier to insert than some of the lighter (less dense) foam plugs.

Some good suggestions in this thread. Looks like I'll be upgrading my ear protection soon.

I like using the corded earplugs that are made out of what seems to be a rubber material that has the three "baffles. My head seems to be to small that most ear muffs move around to much for my liking and I can't stand the foam plugs.

Oh, I completely understand what you're saying, and agree with you. Definitely not looking to "cheap out", but I'd hate to spend hundreds on muffs that won't work for me. If it was a try before you buy type thing, I'd have no problem making that purchase to preserve what hearing I have left.

If you were close id let you try em out. Have you considered a slightly higher optic mount?

I cant shoot with muffs either. Use Surefire Earpro. Strongest decibel version. Not the best for shush but I also only shoot outdoors so I have no complaints.

A lot of people don't know this, or how to squish them down and let them expand in the ear.

OP, properly inserted foam plugs offer superior protection than just about all other forms of ear pro.

                            IF they FIT your ears...

If they don't they are useless, however, they aren't expensive so give them a try!

I used to wear HL plugs (pink and yellow ones) every day under my motorcycle helmet (the quieter ride helped me concentrate on riding without distraction) but (and this is gross) I had to give myself a wet willy first before putting them in my ears (ie; I had to lick my finger and wet the inside of my ear).

When I shoot rifles at matches I use a pair of custom molded plugs for that same reason - muffs affect my cheekweld. You can get custom plugs made at Costco and Sam's. I bought mine as a kit and they work well.
