    Help for a new member.

Im not sure this is the correct place to post this, so Mods if need please move this to the right place. I am selling a AK style rifle and somebody from California wants to buy it. I know there are restrictions on like all semi autos that have detachable clips and pistol grips and things like that. However the person wanting to buy it says if i ship the rifle to him minus the pistol grip and minus a mag that it is legal. That doesn't seem right to me because it would be way to easy to just reassemble, then again i know nothing about it. So i ask you would that be legal? Also he said that i can dissemble the Mag and ship it to him as parts. All of this will be going through a FFL.

What type of AK is it? What receiver? If it is not specifically listed, you can remove the pistol grip and any other evil features (flash suppressor, etc) and it can be shipped here to his FFL.

If he puts the pistol grip on it, he would be creating an assault weapon. There are other grip alternatives that aren't pistol grips which work, or he can install a magazine lock.

If the AK isn't specifically banned by name, then it can be shipped in if there are no offending features installed.

Threaded barrel isn't an assault weapon feature in CA. Threaded barrels were a feature under the now expired/defunct federal ban.

Here is a good guide for you to look at.

he is correct as the changes would make it SB23 compliant. if you're still unsure contact his/her FFL to verify.

i hope this educates you. spread the word... "sell to cali".

Private individuals don't have to do anything extra to sell to Californians. FFLs in other States have to register on the CA Dept of (in)Justice's website and verify the receiving FFL holder's status. A lot of out of State FFLs don't want to do that.
