IWI announces phase out of Tavor SAR

Was bound to happen but such a shame. I preferred the SAR over the X95.

The TAVOR® X95™ Takes Center Stage Harrisburg, Pa. (September 2017) - IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., announced today that they will be phasing out the original TAVOR® SAR from their product line. The TAVOR SAR revolutionized the market for bullpup carbines in the US when it was first introduced

The x95 is definitely better, but I love the front end of my old SAR more than the x95's bulky grip.
Replying to craigslist for casual encounters is like pokemon with STDs. Gotta catch em all
If Hell ever needed a operations manual all it would need is a copy of California's laws

Wouldn't doubt it. Just look at the price of a FS2000.

Would you guys still recommend buying a SAR now that they're scheduled to be discontinued, even with the requirements to pin/weld the muzzle extender and requirements to run featureless? I'm debating buying one used and it's a tough call.

Me too. So used to the SAR mag release. And it just shoulders better than my X95.

So you'd recommend one, then? It'd be a big purchase for me and the restrictions in CA just have me bummed out about rifles. As a newbie to the gun owning world the Tavor is really appealing but it feels like it's going to be somewhat handicapped. How do you feel about it as a home defense/SHTF rifle?

Where are you located? If you make it out to the monthly South OC CGSSA events, you'll be able to see both the X95 and SAR first hand before you decide.

I am a bit biased, as I like bullpups. So yes, I think it is worth it. It won't be as accurate as a DD or BCM AR at similar price range. But it is Minute of Men accurate, just like my AK's. SHTF rifle? Certainly. It eats steel cased Tula 223 for lunch. Home defense? Heck yeah. But you will be deaf after the first shot in such an enclosed space. I would use a .22LR rifle as an in home defense weapon.

So I guess that this means that I won't be seeing a 20-inch CA barrel for my Tavor SAR?

Was there ever any plans for a 20" barrel? I've only seen 16 and 18

As the owner of a Tavor SAR, an FN FS2000, and a Steyr STG77 AUG, I would recommend looking closely at the Steyr if considering a bullpup. It would be the last of the 3 to go for me.
