    EDM vs. Cheytac

    Hey Guys,
I was just wandering what the differences(other than price) between the EDM XM408 and the Cheytac M-200?? Any pics and personal experiences with either one also welcome.

The Cheytac M200 was developed on what became the XM04, a slightly scaled down EDM M96 Windrunner. From there Cheytac Assoc modified the bipod assembly and created a much more stable platform. Beyond that there aren't many differences. The M200's have been barreled by Lawton in MT, arguably the top barrel makers for shooting solids. The XM04 I got from EDM was barreled by Lilja, no slouch either. Both are very capable rifles and really the only advantages I can say about each is that the M200 is more stable but requires more work to takedown to the level of the XM04 (because of the bipod assembly). The XM04 has always been more affordable as well, but honestly with that platform the consumables (ammo) is where things add up.

Ah k. I do like the M-200's bipod assembly and Forearm(I guess thats what it is). I would love to get one of either one I just dont know if an extra $3500+ is worth it for the M-200 over the XM04. How do you like yours Brando?? Got any pics

While I don't have any firsthand experience with Cheytac I do with EDM and I can tell you their service is second to none. Bill runs a fine company and stands behind his rifles. I only have one gripe about EDM, they left California, not that I blame him for doing so in his line of work it was just so nice to have him only 20 minutes from my office.

With that said, I cant imagine that bipod and shroud are worth the extra $$$ over the EDM. Just my $.02

There was a short time frame when you could buy the bipod assembly from Cheytac to place on an XM04, which was a bit expensive because it required a new barrel nut among other things. My XM04 had some kinks that had to be worked out of it before I got it dialed in. I've spent easily half the time I've owned it actually doing load and bullet testing for others. As of right now I have two types of loads:

          <1600m Economical Load
          Lehigh 375gr Solid
          126.5gr RL-25
          Fed 215M
Jamison or TTI Brass (trimmed to 3.30")
          COAL 4.194"
          2780 fps

          <2100m ELR Load
          Jamison 419gr Solid
          129gr RL-25
          Fed 215M
Jamison or TTI Brass (trimmed to 3.30")
          COAL 4.426"
          2900fps

The latter is more expensive primarily because of the bullets. The Lehigh's are around about half the price of the LRBT/Hooker/Jamison solids.

This is how it looked when it shipped.
