    Christmas Rifles...

My bestest friend Richard and I gift (through PPT at Dealers) guns every Christmas and Birthday. This Christmas I got him a complete LMT Defender. Today the paperwork was done of my prezzie:

Beautiful Winchester Model 52 circa 1960's .22 LR repeater bolt action rifle with a Lyman Sport 6X scope.

Windage and elevation adjustments OUTSIDE the scope! Cool beans!

Originally designed in the 1920's the 52 was used as a trainer for US and British troops...

Since they sort of go together, I decided to show it with one of his Christmas presents to me from a couple of years back, a single shot Mauser .22 German army trainer rifle...

These iron sights are typical military of the period -- and deadly accurate at the ranges indicated.

I know these aren't Raging ARs but they bring hours of fun at just a few dollars at the range and have their own military history...

        Gorgeous!
There is more machine time in making the back sight alone than there is in making entire guns made now.

                  Wow every Christmas and birthday?
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Yeah -- at first, fifteen years ago, it was cool. Now, as the guns get more expensive, every year I suggest perhaps that we should have ONE gun (a nice 1911 or Garand) that we gift back and forth each time.

How do you respond to a $7000 Belgian Browning O/U Trap gun? With a $600 S&W mountain gun? (yeah I did that a few years back, and I felt like a cheap bastard)

The permanent "Gift Gun" is looking better and better...

To bad that the craftsmanship of that time period has gone the way of the wind in a lot of todays building.... what sweet rifles

Argh. Work the bolt one these guns. Look at the fit and finish of those rear sights -- the polish of the metal beneath the blueing -- for trainers -- and it will make you weep when you see a Ruger rifle or a GLOCK or S&W M&P....
