I'm working on building 4 different AK74 type rifles...

Everytime I go to a build party, I spend more time helping others build thiers. So at this rate, I'll never finish!

Like others have said, AR "builds" are much more common because one need not posses any mechanical ability to put one together.

FALs take a little more ability and some tooling, and AKs are quite a bit more involved in both respects.

But trust me, AKs are being built.

Generally speaking, AKs are built while ARs are assembled.

With AK's selling for $800-1000 now it seems like the investment in jigs and other specialized tools might pay off more quickly, but if you are not planning on making 4-5 receivers for yourself is it worth setting-up shop?

With the kits drying-up, are there U.S. made barrels to fill them out now or do they cost as much as a kit?

Lastly, how much more work is required to build a virgin parts kit rather than work with a cut kit? I still see virgin Yugo kits around that seem like a pretty good deal...

            Thanks-

I hope some still do. My AK parts kit came a couple of days ago, and I already have an NDS-3 receiver, so now I just need some compliance parts and a build party. I didn't see anything about one coming up in SoCal, though.

What do you need guns for if you are going to send your children, seven hours a day, 180 days a year to government schools? What do you need the guns for at that point?-- R. C. Sproul, Jr. (unconfirmed)
