    AR trigger issues

So over the weekend I took my AR shooting twice, and both times I was having issues with the trigger not reseting instantly, sometimes it would take it up to like 5 seconds to reset, I cleaned and oiled the trigger group but nothing changed. Out of the thousands of rounds I have shot through my M16 I have never had this problem nor have I ever heard of it. What could be causing it?

    Thanks,
    Scott

If you push the trigger forward would it reset faster? How does the reset spring look? I would look there first. A weak or broken reset spring and while the trigger is apart look to make sure that the sear surfaces aren't damaged.

Make sure the trigger reset spring is installed correctly.

Make sure the disconnector spring is in there properly, as well.

      Can you physically reset it?

Razorscs, you said you had fired several thousand rounds so it is something that has changed. My brother put his reset spring in wrong on the one he built last week. But if it is an older build, then something has changed.

One more thing to check, I helped a guy at the range having the same problem. Turns out he had just changed the rear stock and the buffer retianer had come out while he was firing it and the spring and pin got down into the trigger.

If you built it or are comfortable doing it, I would pull the trigger and check for any damaged parts. Only takes a few minutes.

Likely the trigger spring is installed upside down or installed with the loop of the spring on top of instead of underneath the trigger.
Second possibility is improperly installed or missing disconnector spring.

I'll look around and check, I didn't build it myself so I hope I don't make it worse lol. And I meant I had shot thousands of rounds through my issued M16, not this AR, I have probably only shot 700 or so.

Take some pictures, we may be able to quickly spot any issues.

A faulty "safety selector" can do this too. You can try to remove the safety and see if it still do that same...

hmm, the safety has been really "sticky" feeling lately, it doesn't change all that crisply since its been acting up, maybe that's it.

I'd break down the lower and clean and check everything for cracks or bends or breakage. While down there check the springs and make sure they are installed correctly.

Is it an Ambi safety? I had seen Ambi safety interfering with 2-stage triggers before.

                          Your springs are on backwards.
