    "Appleseed" Liberty Training Rifle

I just started building my Appleseed LTR out of a 10/22. I ordered all the goodies the "Appleseed" guys recommended (tech-sights, mag release, sling, etc.) I am anxious to get it all put together, but am waiting on my 10 day DROS. Can any of you guys who have built up LTR's please post some pictures?

Participating in an Appleseed event does not require an expensive Military Style Battle Rifle or an investment in expensive ammunition. Over...

Also, now i need to get some ammo for my 10/22. What ammo do you recommend? I know I should buy a bunch of different kinds and see what my rifle likes but I don't have time for all that now. What is a good clean .22 round that likes 10/22's?

    Thanks

I had nothing but trouble with Winchester Super-X in my girlfriend's 10/22. I switched over to the Federal Bulk Pack from Wal-Mart and it shoots great!

The new 10/22s have a much better mag release then the old ones. You may not need to change it.

I just put the Tech sights on my 10/22 just yesterday. Now I will just have to get myself over to the Metcalf range and shoot it. It will cost a lot less to shoot than either of my ARs

"Appleseed" Liberty Training Rifle Reply to Thread (pics)

sorry this pic is so blurry. The sling isn't in the pic because it was on my arm (in "loop" configuration as seen in the picture at the bottom of http://www.hudsonicdev.com/m/index.php?title=AppleSeed page)

I used 2 different kinds of ammo, but both failed to cycled the action fully many times. In other words, I had to manually release the bolt about 10% of the time. At least I think it might have been the ammo...unless it was a lame bolt-release replacement part. I'm building a second LTR next month so I can compare results. On this next one I'm simply going to mod the existing part instead of paying for a replacement.

Sorry for the crappy pics, it's dark & I can't find any good light.
I Just finished mine yesterday, still need to put on a rear sling swivel stud.
The front swivel is from an M14 stock.
I put a Ruger SS 22" std. profile barrel, Tech-Sights & an Eagle Short Muzzle Brake on it. It has the trigger out of my old 10/22 with all the goodies I put in before swapping.

Notice with the 22" barrel, the sight Radius / distance is almost Identical to the M1A.

Have to wait till the weekend to bring it to Los Altos so I can see how it shoots.

No pics, but if you have trouble with stovepipe jams in your 10/22 you might want to consider going with an aftermarket extractor. Mine was pretty unreliable until I replaced it. Also, while not at all necessary, I find the Hogue overmold stocks to be a good value and more comfortable than the factory wood. You can get one cut for the standard profile barrel.

I built one of these recently.

My experiences, for what its worth:

                      1. you do not need the extended mag release, the new 10/22s have one that is plenty long

                      2. the Tech-Sights are great but they raise the line of sight significantly. so much so that you will not get a good cheek weld with the factory stock. I used an aftermarket cheek rest from my bolt action rifle and it is much better.

                      3. i use cheap Blazer ammo. it works wonderfully in my 10/22. at 20.00 for 500 rounds its hard to pass up.

                      4. make sure you get at least 3 extra magazines for a total of four. you will blow through the ten rounders fast and reloading can become a pain.

                      5. do NOT use oil or lube in the action. use a dry lube like Remington Dry Lube and it will not gum up after a few hundred rounds.

                      have fun

10/22s have their own ammo preferences, try a few 50rnd boxes find out what yours likes and then get some in bulk.
markhu's bolt release mod is a good one. Also get a bolt buffer and 10/22s are always better once you modify the trigger.

This is my LTR, that I modified so my daughter and I could both comfortably shoot it.

I got the T6 stock for it so my daughter could shoot it easily with the stock all the way collapsed. I thought the charging handle looked cool, and it makes it easier her her to rack the action back. I changed the sights to Tech sights and they are a great improvement over stock. Ladder rail covers, just for looks. The jury is still out on the grip, it's a nice addition but I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep it on there.

I feed mine federal bulk pack and have no problems scoring in the 220+ range. Every once in awhile I get a bad primer, but I look at it as an opportunity for ftf drills or as a ball/dummy drill.

                          Here's some pics:
