Mini 14 magazines- any preferred brand or OEM only?

I sold my A - Team special somewhere around 1992..... but I got an email and phone call from a cousin who just started DROSing one....

I recall that the magazines I had could be temperamental.... but that was ages ago.

In the 10nround world, is there any preferred manufacturer or should he stick to Ruger OEM magazines???

Any sites that have better deals?

Ruger 20s are far and away the best, though most of the readily available 10s aren't as bad as reputation would have it.

I find the John Masen 10 round steel magazines work in my 196 stainless and 582 blued pretty well.

I have a factory 10 from 1980 and it has never failed to feed, just bought 3 more factory 10's on sale and will checking them out soon. Stay factory.

I've got factory mags for mine. The one pro mag I had at one point worked for awhile until it didn't anymore lol. For me I'm just sticking with the couple factory ones I have.

I only used oem with mine. Aftermarket would have issues

They get a lot of hate, but I had decent luck with a Pro Mag 10 rounder.

Agreed. While their pistol mags are genuine crap, their AR and Mini magazines have been working just fine in my rifles for 30 years.

The newest generation of Tapco Mini-14 mags have anti-tilt followers, are solidly built, and work flawlessly (personal experience, not rehashing someone else's post)

I recommend Ruger mags only. Ruger now makes a factory 10 round magazine.

ProMag, John Masen, Tapco, Eagle Beta-mag, Ruger brand and some mags that just say made in USA(maybe triple K can't remember) have all worked perfect in my old 185 series Mini.

I agree 100%. After working with that platform for the past thirty years, just about every aftermarket magazine has had issues; from soft feedlips, poor springs, to miss-aligned latch dimples and rusting issues.
With factory mags once they are broken in, all is well.

I've had better than "decent luck" with Pro Mag 10 rd mags. My 581 series Ranch Rifle works just fine with Pro Mag, John Masen and even some no-name ones from CDNN Sports. Of the 20 or so 10 and 20 rd mags I own, the only Ruger mags I use are the 5 rd that came with the rifle and 3 10 rd that required filing and fitting to work correctly.
