The inconsistent ammo is obviously the issue as evidenced by all the other rounds functioning just fine and not getting stuck in the chamber and having their rims ripped off.
Post a picture showing 10-15 spent cases from the properly functioning rounds so we can see what the case heads and primers all look like.
If there is a PATTERN of high pressure with pull marks on rims, we can surmise that you had a whole bunch of high pressure cartridges, but your gun was just able to deal with them.
If the rest of them have proper-pressure-looking-primers, then that shows us the inconsistency of the ammo.

About ten years ago I bought thousand rounds of Wolf Gold that was a bad lot, it was hot and on occasion would pop a primer. I thought it was the rifle but then found out on ARF.com I was not the only one that had that problem. Haven't bought Wolf Gold since and started reloading instead.

And you high speed types called us fools for having underbarrel-mounted cleaning rods on Com-bloc weapons.

I've shot a few hundred wolf gold from my DTI 20" with zero issues. I find it's an ideal ammo for the rifle. It also eats various types of steel case with different (polymer, lacquer, plated) coatings very happily.

I pretty much only buy Wolf Gold because of price point. In the last few years I have put several thousand rounds through multiple 5.56mm rifles, mostly the AR15 without ever a proper cleaning. Just an occasional wipe down. Never a hiccup.

Please post the lot # if you still have the boxes.

I was Always a PMC or AE type of guy.. My coworker tossed me a few boxes of WG, and after shooting, I was convinced, the grouping was quiet nice, and Im sold ever since.. I'd say I've shot about a good 2.5-3k rounds with diff types of AR15..

Plenty of other brass options for the same price.

I was using a Noveske upper, Sharps BCG and Bolt, and a PSA CHF barrel. The first time it happened I had cleaned the barrel the night before and it wasn't more than 50 rounds into the day before the issue happened.
Overgassed means issue with firearm. Typically some slight overgassing is fine and will keep a gun reliable even with weak rounds. If you have an adjustable gas block turn it all the way down, use a magazine with one round in it and fire. Keep firing and adjusting the gas block up one setting at a time until you have the bolt hold open. Then try that setting several more times to make sure it locks open on empty every time and that is the proper gas setting for your AR.

Ive never used wold gold but if your gun is this badly overgassed this will happen again regardless of what brand you use for ammunition. Milspec gas port is .063 for a M4 carbine set up and many brands will run a 075 to make sure it's got a little extra gas but a cheap barrel with little QA can have some stupid large ports like .09. An adjustable gas block is your best bet.

That definately sucks. I couldn't say if it was a bad batch of ammo, your rifle or a combination of both? But after shootings several cases of Wolf Gold that has become my go to bulk ammo, I try to only buy Wolf Gold now. And not just because of price but great performance for the price. The reviews are overwhelmingly good. Your experience does definitely blow 😕

My noveske rifle runs it just fine. Its my go-to ammo when it comes to rifle courses. Your upper probably trash.

Good call. I had numerous Gunnersmates and CGIS agents tell me early on to stay clear of Wolf ammo. They had a few horror stories and other issues over the years. I have never used them and probably never will. It may be cheap and that's why a lot of folks opt for it. I don't blame them.

Inconsistant ammo looks like the culprit.

I would suggest/recommend switching brands. Read reviews and buy a couple boxes of each. Try them out and see what you prefer and what your firearm likes.

                              .
Think you might be confusing steel cased Wolf for brass cased Wolf. Brass cased Wolf is usually gtg. Can't speak for the OP's rifle but mine has shot it fine.

Wolf Gold has been an awesome range round for me. At least 5000 rounds and I can't remember a single malfunction.
