AR or AK Pistol Build in CA, Latest Story

I saw the news reports in the last week about how the ATF has reversed some of it's position on pistol braces and it seems more and more likely that this interpretation will be good for awhile.

That said, what is the current state of affairs in CA regarding a semi auto pistol build? I vaguely remember the SSE, but that is no longer the case correct?

If we build from a lower designated as a pistol in the DROS, would this kind of build be kosher:

    1) Pistol tube
    2) Pistol brace that HAS the ability to adjust
    3) Fixed magazine (has to break apart to load)
    4) Standard pistol grip

    or

    1) Pistol tube
    2) Pistol brace that has NO ability to adjust
    3) Detachable magazine
    4) Featureless grip wrap

I am an expert with rifles but can't wrap my mind around the current state of pistol builds.

It'd be easiest to PPT a used break open pistol lower.

SSE 1.0 and Bullet-Button ship has sailed a long time ago.

You can transfer a single shot break open pistol from a manufacturer or build one from an 80% lower -- new CA laws regarding serialized numbers and markings are in effect. However, no facilities yet in place by DOJ.

Featureless grips/wraps is not a thing with auto-loading pistols that load from mag well outside of pistol grip.

no such thing as a featureless pistol, since like Stanze said, magazine out side of the pistol grip.

So it must be fixed mag or break open action as of now.

What if it does not have a "pistol grip", as defined, or none at all, what then ?

If he uses an 80% lower, can he just build as semi auto directly? Reading conflicting info out there regarding still having to build as single shot. ??
