LMT 308 LM8 Slick vs LMT 308 MWSE for 10x scope?

Hello as a CA resident and 2017 ban, I went out and busted a couple credit cards and got these two rifles. It was not easy finding them, and even more difficult to pay card down.

Both have 16" chrome lined standard barrels. The LM8 has thinner "slick" rails. The MWSE has wider rails.

I would like to set one of these up with my SWFA SS 10X FIXED SCOPE, and later a side red dot.

The other one I'd like to eventually set up with a 3x or 6x AGOG, which I don't have yet.

Which of of these two LMT designs make most sense for the SWFA SS 10x scope?

Usage for the DMR rifle will be target shooting at medium to long distances.

Functionally they are literally the same. The only difference is quad vs slick chassis uppers. Weight wise they arent much different either, as while the slick doesnt have the pic rail, it also doesnt have the large holes for cooling like the quad rail uppers do. Pick whichever tickles your netherregions for the "DMR role". You can also look up the L129A1 and build a clone out of one of them

Curious what kind of research you did before you maxed out your credit cards?

buy an 18" stainless barrel, set one of them up as a "DMR". How's your long range shooting skills?

You make an excellent point. I want to build an L129A1 clone, that means an ACOG on the standard rails model.

So the LM8 slick gets the SWFA SS 10x

          Thanks.

I thought of that. The 16" barely clears my safe though, so am going to have to be happy with 16".

Pretty short safe. Barely fits with the stock fully collapsed?

Oh let's see. I researched California law SB880. And all other laws banning military semiautomatic rifles in California. I researched best manufacturers. Then as of last quarter, I got two of the very best 308s I could get my hands on. This included driving around to 20 different gun stores in four different counties in So. Cal. That produced one LMT.

The other I had to jump through hoops to get before December 21 from an out of state dealer. This involved a dozen phone calls to LMT in Illinois and KGC in Bardstown, Kentucky who each lIke wise went though hopes to get them here for me in time to DROS them before the OC Armory'so drop dead date for DROSing.

                Is that enough research?

Why LMT? Personal preference. I wanted a military grade weapon. Buy right, buy once.

There was DD 308 and LWRC with the spiral barrel, some POF, and the ubiquitous Smith and Wesson with the pencil barrel.

Yes, it's a short safe. My ARs barely fit with stock collapsed. But I am grateful. Without going in to detail, it's extemely secure safe, not originally designed for firearms.

Regarding the above, the LMT is by far one of the top AR10's money can buy, period.

For what it is worth, my only rifle is a LMT 308 MWS purchased last December with a similar mindset as you have described. However, knowing I was working toward a one rifle solution I went with the Minox ZP8 1-8x24 for short and medium range shooting. I would have prefered the slick but simply could not find one at a reasonable price. My other long gun is a Benelli M4.

On the fits in the safe issue, I would consider picking up a 20" barrel and storing the upper and lower apart. This way you would maximize your LMT pair, one CQB, and one DMR.

That Minox scope looks sweet. Made in Germany. Nice.

Excellent rifles for sure. Got to shoot 300-600yds for the first time today. Brought my 16" MWS out to the 2017 Sac Valley Precision Mid-Range Rifle Marksmanship Clinic and it definitely performed.

Here's 3 consecutive shots, during a (20 shot, 20 min) slow-fire string @ 600yds. The wind had just died down for a quick moment!

                            -Back side
