Thread protectors don't use crush washers. Crush washers are used to "clock" muzzle devices, no clocking needed on a thread protector

The crown is protected by the inside chamfer.

If you are not using a lock washer (eg crush washer) of some kind, won't the thread protector work its way free?

There are two different lengths of 1/2-28 muzzle threads.
22 rimfire pistols (and many rimfire rifles) use a 0.4" thread length.
22 centerfire rifles use a 0.6" thread length.

If you use a thread protector that was made for a shorter rimfire thread on a longer centerfire thread, it's not going to cover the full length of threads and the crown.

Here is what mine looks like. I'm using rocksett to hold it in place. If you are in the north county area, i'd be more than happy to give you some for yours.

                            Thread Protector

I need to find a pencil thread protector that recesses the crown like yours. Are you using a crush washer?

No crush washer, just a drop of rocksett to hold it in place.
