Any places/people in socal who can mill HK USC upper for ump mags?

I just purchased an HK USC from a local calguns member the other day. I have everything to do the UMP conversion (ump lower, mags, stock, HDPS stock block B).

But the hardest part is machining out the upper where the mag goes into the chamber (same principle as the wasr10 and how they open up the mag well to accept the larger double stack mags)

Its all plastic and youtube vids seem like its not too hard (can be done with a dremel and file but that's the more ghetto way to do it). But I don't want a hack job or mess it up since its a gun that isn't in production anymore.

If there is anyone in SoCal who has a mill/drill press who has experience in doing this mod I would gladly pay to have you do it rather then have me mess it up. Also I need someone who has experience in installing the lower parts kit, its a bit complex and I cannot find any videos of links with the instructions for some reason. Never owned an HK so have zero experience with the lpk.

Theres places I can send it to who can do it. I don't really wanna deal with shipping a gun out of state if theres local alternatives.

    Any info would be sweet.

This guy did mine 4 years ago:

You can pick and choose what services you want. Remember that the "upper" is the serialized part, so no ffl is needed.

Also, you might want to just buy a real ump lower and have the semi parts installed. That's what I did in the end after wasting money on the USC lower.

No the upper itself needs to be milled. You need more then just the lower. And the serialized part (upper) needs an FFL. (Not really a concern as most these places have the right license to accept guns to do work on)

Anyways I have the UMP lower it's a 3 position Navy lower. The full auto section has the pin installed and it's been filled with some sort of plastic already (to be on the extra safe side) which is actually a service that these places offer. I just need the upper milled and USC lpk transferred over to the ump lower.

I'll contact these people and see what's up.

i would say contact Randall (ar15barrels here) as he's close enough to you (Van Nuys) and can do this while you wait as long as you set up an appointment. Does great work.

Dude. Just take a dremel and go very slow. Draw it out. Dont cut to the line. Just shave. Check and insert mag. Shave more, check and insert mag. Keep doing it until it locks up nice and firm with minimal wiggle.

pretty much, or you can get a small saw or file and have at it.

Some things you just have to gut up and do.

End of it all, this procedure takes more balls than skill.

                  +4 here.

Unless you have Tourette's and a really bad spontaneous tick, you'd be surprised how much you can accomplish with a Dremel, some files, and a little sandpaper.

Just take it slow and easy.

                    t t t t tttttt...

Ya i'll probably do it myself. Although Im still looking for a "how to" write up on the lower parts install, its way more complex looking then an AR lower.

                    Stupid 10 day wait.

                        Well major success.

I literally spent a week searching for how to's for USC to UMP specific vids/write ups for just the lower parts install etc. All I found was links from people saying to watch the SL8 to G36 FCG install as it's "similar" I didn't find those vids helpful at all as it was pretty different.

I did find one link with a couple pics of how the hammer and trigger went. After that the rest I figured out on my own by tinkering. Seriously the easiest install ever. Makes an AR-15 LPk install seem hard. I could do this all day in 5 mins. You need no tools other then something to hit the pins in with.

I'm laughing because I went and signed up for the hkpro forum to find the info. All these guys who charge people to install the FCG who has experience keep whining saying how hard it is....I mean wtf? I figured it out without even having instructions, and I can do it in 5 mins all day if I wanted now. Super easy. They must be some feeble gun smiths.

Next was to open up the upper receiver magwell so the big UMP mag will fit, and open up the front of the lower where it hinges on the pins (ump lower has a smaller hinge)

One of the past owner already did the work. The UMP mag fits solid when I went to stick it in to see how much to cut, no wobble. Tested it by chambering and ejecting dummy rounds. Everything works flawless. Even the hinge was already modded and opened up. I'm thinking the old owner must have started and never finished as I got all the conversion parts, but only thing needed was the FCG install.

                        Def happy camper right now.
