    Muzzle brake compensator question

I tried to read a bit about if muzzle brakes are different from compensators and called few vendors with the same question. I got variety of answers
Muzzle brake is to reduce recoil
Compensator is for vertical shift compensation
Both are different names for the same thing

Websites name all three optiobs muzzle brake, compensator and muzzle brake-compensator

    1.Which statement is more accurate?
2.Would it be better to get muzzle brake compensator that just brake or conpensator or it is the same?
    3. I found TacFire offering reasonable prices. Is it a good brand?

I just bought the Alphacat Armory muzzlebrake for 5.56 and it's awesome. Muzzle stays flat and it easily comparable to a surefire MB556K but for almost a third of the price.

So many names are often used to represent the same thing practically.

A compensator can still provide a good deal of recoil, but under sustained fire it may help control muzzle climb IE the vertical shift you described.

With the wide variety of brakes available, some excel more than others with specific shooting in mind. For instance, you have brakes that have slots all around that greatly reduce felt recoil (and the little that there is pushes the rifle directly backwards into your shoulder). This brake however would make shooting difficult while in the prone due to all the dirt/dust being kicked up from the brake.

I wouldn't overthink the terminology used and instead would read up on the the various tests done online and youtube (and here on the forum).

Thanks guys. Alpha shooting sports is reasonably priced but they do not have muzzle brakes in 7.62 I am looking for. I found online TacFire .308 5/8x24 MZ1002-3ss fitting my caliber. I will make a bit more research for positive or negative feedback and reviews.

it is semantics like i think about a compensator as a device that compensates for recoil like say the ak slant brake its slightly canted to compensate for right handed people due to the angles or bore axis to grip and shoulder weld so its like a compensated brake

which is different with the straight line from the center of bore to the top of the stock with an ar-15 i dislike many stocks that have odd angles where the recoil actually wants to drive the cheekrest into your face its like it wants to sloyly creep up over your shoulder
