If it is a little loose, just crimp it a bit.

Since it is copper, the hardened steel from the threads will cut right into the copper.

If you have 10 rifles that need to be brought into compliance, but want to buy good compensators, this will protect the threads until you can afford to buy what you want later.

Use a pipe cutter to trim it a bit. Prime and BBQ paint if you are so inclined.

Screw on thread protectors are plenty cheap on ebay.

This hobby was never meant to be cheap; maybe just cheaper than other hobbies but it's expensive in general.

If you have multiple ARs. I can cut you a deal on thread protectors. They are pretty cheap.

I don't know what they normally go for, but they are all over amazon for $8 shipped. Kind of steep for what it is, I guess, but if you only have to do a few ARs it's not too bad. The copper tube idea doesn't seem safe, that muzzle moves a lot when you shoot it and it seems like it could pretty easily rattle off.

I would just cut off the end of the A2 myself. In fact I did that once and belt sanded the cut smooth. Or just buy an eBay one for 9 bucks shipped.

And once you start shooting I'm guessing the heat and recoil will blown that thing off somewhat fast?

The barrel threads are still thin. Even that copper sleeve can damage the threads by forcing it on, or crimping it down into the threads with pliers.

Just spend the extra couple bucks and do it proper.. Not backyard bubba cheapskate.
