Sten V build

It's 2017 in Kalifornia, what is the low down on starting a Sten V build? I have no desire in becoming a felon but have always wanted to build this (as well as other) guns.

If it meets the overall length, has a 16" barrel and is fixed semi-auto does it still need to be registered with the ATF?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

In order to be CA legal...

If it is made as semi-auto centerfire rifle, it needs to be featureless or be set up to operate using a fixed 10 round magazine that can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or is welded/epoxied/riveted into the magazine well.

Barrel length needs to be 16" or greater and overall length needs to be 30" or greater.


Unless it is a NFA firearm, home built firearms are never registered with the BATFE.

CA laws governing home built firearms do not go into effect until 07-01-2018.
Those laws requires certain markings to be engraved on the firearm, in order for it to remain CA legal after 2018.
