I like the concept. Maybe go with one vertical hole countersunk for the spring and threaded set screw on the side to keep the pin from falling out. Thanks OP. These are the type of ideas that we need.

Satisfies the legal requirement, but it's overkill and makes it too difficult to change magazines, which is the point of these projects.
The setscrew in the front not only requires pivoting open (which is all that is required legally), but requires complete removal AND the use of a tool.

There is also a very fine line between the setscrew securing the mag and interfering with the bullet tips and follower

There is such an easier way to do this and it's the way it was done in 2005 on AR lowers that would come with fixed magazines either epoxyed in or pinned in. In one of my threads on my first AR15 from 2005 I show some of this and photos. But essentially you drill a small hole (very small under the magazine release non button side) - which means it is hidden from view - put the magazine to the magwell & mark where the hole in the lower is on the mag & then you dremel (or file or cut) a small channel in the magazine and if you slide the pin ( whatever you choose to use as a pin) into this hole and put your mag release back together that pin will slide along the groove you cut in the mag and keep the mag pinned in.

Far less work, far less modification, easy to undo, and a small hole you drill is hidden.

          my 2005 thread

Why remove the mag when you can load it through the ejection port with new mag loaders? You would never have to open the reciever

If those work... they show promise... but until they hand them to students at a class and let 10 people install them and run them for 3 days.... Well, I want to see testing
