Seems like this could be a viable option for AK owners not wanting to register or go featureless. What is not shown is what will make the magazine fixed. I chatted with the guy or one of the guys who came up with it and it seems like they have thought it through. There will be something that attaches to the existing magazine release which cannot be removed without destroying it. It was not clear to me if there might be be some grey area around being able to cut or drill it off. He seemed confident it met the definition of fixed.
For loading there is a spring loaded door which you feed rounds through when the follower is pulled down with the handle shown. The final product with lock in place and release with a slap. They are also working on a speed loader to feed 10 rounds quickly through the trap door. Pictures are of a prototype and the final product will be a little different.
Product is being offered by Direct Action Solutions (DAS). Roll out is expected in the next few weeks and price point is around $100. No affiliation, just seemed like a good option for AK owners.
