What about an extra charging handle?

I just broke one, and it almost put me out of commission...

OP I think you have to ask yourself what are you gonna do when the Zombies come?

Bug in - then maybe a set of parts couldn't hurt.
Bug out - I will bet you 3 MREs you will forget you box of parts.

For me . . . I like to have all the same brand and models for either situation. If I have to "Bug out" I will grab the guns disperse to family members and bug out. We will have 3 DD rifles, 3 870s, 3 VP9s, 3 XD9s. Hopefully that will help with parts, etc.

I guess it could not hurt to have some take down pins, a BCG, a charging handle, etc. Or maybe a couple of complete uppers to swap??

Indeed, but in a zombie apocalypse I'll happily replace a broken RAW lower with a non-RAW one, I'll take my chances with the zombie DOJ agent
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

And now you see why most of my AR type rifles are dual charging (JP's).

Those are cool, but the top charger always seemed redundant to me when there's a perfectly good side charger to use. Do you ever use the top charging handle? Is the side-charging handle likely to break?

Make sure you buy some mil-spec parts for when all your fancy doodads and optics systems break.

unless you tie your ar to the back of a struck and use it for fishing it should last you a decade if you take care of it. I would get a firing pin springs and a spare gasblok
retreat! we must go comrade we will fight again another day.

Side handle is VERY robust. During high speed shooting games (USPSA and multigun) I sometimes end up using the top handle....muscle memory is hard to get over and have used the top handle for so long when I was in the Army.

                            I can't believe no one's mentioned it.

You're going to need a bayonet.

                            ... a really long bayonet.

(And then maybe another bayonet to back that one up.)

I have like 7 LPKs that were originally gonna go on future 80% builds but then I got lazy so now they are just spare parts. So I'm more than covered for lowers. As far as uppers I have 6 spare PSA Premium MPI tested BCGs, (rebranded Toolcrafts supposedly). I don't have spare individual parts, if something goes down I just intend to swap out the BCG and when I get home Ill diagnose the problem and order a replacement part from there.

I wonder how a side charger redirects gas when firing suppressed (or if it even does at all)?

Once I move to Utah, I won't have funds for toys anymore until I graduate so I won't be able to do testing anytime soon, but it would be cool to find out someday.
