Castle nut with no staking notches?

I recently bought a second hand buffer tube kit for one of my AR build. When I was installing it, I noticed the castle nut doesn't have any notches on the staking side. One side has the notches for the wrench, and the other side is just a smooth rim. I had to do a double take when I saw this. I suppose I could always lock the nut with blue loctite. But I'm curious, do some castle nuts have this design or did I just got a lemon? What do you think?

^^^^^^ This. At a workshop, Daniel Defense said that you should never ever use Loctite on the castle nut.

I've never staked a castle nut. Never had one loosen up either. YMMV

My last PSA upper castle nut wasn't staked from the factory, 1k rounds and no issues so far.

Whiskey_Tango, Jrocket, so you guys just tightened the castle nut with a wrench?

How many 1200 rounds carbine classes have you run with your non-staked castle nut?

There is RIGHT, which means staked and there is GOOD ENOUGH.
Many people will accept GOOD ENOUGH, but make no mistake that it is still not RIGHT.

One person's happenstance experience is not knowledge.

Grind your own staking notch into the nut and then stake it.

Have they seen 1,200 + rounds? Yes
Was it in a class? No
Not sure how rounds fired plinking vs fired in a class change the possibility of the nut backing off.

At any rate I'm just a ditch okie. Please don't take my experience as gospel OP. Do what you feel is right.

Do what you want. I will do the same.

Gutentight is good enough for me.
