    Sig mpx flash hide removal

The flash hider is pinned and welded. Has anyone been brave enough to cut it and install a muzzle break and which muzzle break did you guys install to make it compliant? I would like to set up mine to be featureless.

I did. I will post some pics tomorrow.

I may have a solution for the brake. I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturer......stay tuned

My vortex flash hider was pinned and welded. I drilled out the weld over the pin and used a dentist pick to open up the seam around the pin. I then turned it over and tapped the flash hider LIGHTLY with a hammer 20 times or so. Then I tried to tighten , yes tighten, then loosen the muzzle device slightly. Find the "between" space and turn it over and tap, tap, tap again. Rinse and repeat. The pin finally fell out after about 10 rinse and repeats. Took 15 minutes and no thread damage. Flash hider is reusable too.
Be patient, use a larger bit than the pin. I used about a 3/16 bit to open up the weld to find the edges of the pin. Just don't rush it and you'll do fine. Lots of good YouTube videos on How To drill the pin out. I'm replacing it with a lineal compensator by Kaw Valley Precision. Joe Bob $45. I want less blast.

My plan was to have someone cut the flash hider, thread the barrel and find a muzzle break long enough to meet the OAL. Is this possible or not?

I have not heard back from the muzzle brake manufacturer about making a modified version, but here are the details so far.

I found a muzzle brake that is long enough to work to make the carbine legal. It has 5/8-24 threads (I believe the non-carbine MPXs are the 13.5 LH). My flash hider was not pinned/welded, it was just welded through the pin hole, so the normal method of removing the weld to expose the pin, then removing the pin, did not work. I had to grind through the weld down until I could break the flash hider free. The weld was into the solid portion, not the threads. As you can see from the pics, the muzzle brake is long enough, but I have asked if one can be made to fit the MPX. I have offered to take measurements and also send the flash hider. I am just waiting to hear back.

I added a MIAD grip with Exile Backfin. If the manufacturer can make a modified version of the brake it will be featureless

                        I have done a few MCX/MPX shorten/thread/perm attach jobs.
