Battle Arms Development CA Compliant solution.

I was watching a video of CN Live from Shot Show 2017 where he was talking to a Rep from Battle Arms Development and they were show casing their mag release and take down pins for CA compliant rifles. So the idea is that there is a spring loaded pin that protrudes down behind the mag release so it cannot be actuated when the upper and lower are together. Once the rear take down pin is pulled and the upper pivoted away from the lower it takes the pressure off the pin so the mag release can be used to drop the mag. Nothing truly ground breaking there, but I liked the idea of their rear take down pin. When the pin is rotated 180degrees and you go to pull the pin it only lets the upper pull away from the lower just enough to be able to use the mag release, so the upper cannot flop forward. It literally separates only enough for the mag to be dropped and also for the BCG to be far enough away from the hammer that if for some reason the hammer were to drop it would not be able to hit the firing pin and only hit the bottom shoulder of the BCG.

That is awesome. The question will be, can we install that on an existing lower? Looks like it'd require some drilling.

Sorry I suck at embedding youtube vids. When being interviewed the Rep was asked why did they take the time to design something for CA and they said that this design was made for CA gun shops and CA gun enthusiasts that will not entertain the idea of uprooting themselves and moving. Shops that still had inventory that could not be sold. Battle Arms would convert the lowers and install the mag release lock out feature on existing inventory for shops and customers. I'm sure at a cost obviously.

Anyone with a drill press and calipers should be capable of drilling and assembling.. much simpler than milling an 80% lower. I'm more interested in the takedown pin

I'm not sure how it installs but judging by the few pics and videos I saw it looks like SouthPRK is correct that a hole has to be drilled into the lower receiver to accept the pin and spring that locks out the mag release. In the videos the Rep mentioned being able to remove the system on the fly with tools when in free states for a match and reinstalling it before entering back into CA. by removing a couple allen screws that holds the pin in place.

I will be building a new rifle when those lowers hit the street.

That would be cool to see. Lot of innovation happening with AR community. There a some guys from Redding that have come up with something awesome. Check it out.

Great design from the guys at Battle Arms and glad to hear they're thinking of us but I'm not sending my lowers to them or buying anymore at the moment. I'll go with the Bastiani Arms (Redding) when it comes out at $10 per gun!
