Hi,
While visiting Quartzsite AZ and shooting my Colt 6920 AR 15 with 30rnd magazines I was invited to join friends in Blythe for dinner.
I am aware the 6920 is illegal in CA but understand it is the lower and magazines pose the crux of the problem. The safest place for the AR is locked up where I know it is; in a very secure case in my vehicle in my sight. Back in a motel not a safe place.
What I have considered is leaving the lower in said motel room in AZ along with magazines and bringing the upper locked is said case to CA for the evening.
I guess the best bet is to stay out of CA but failing that will bringing my upper pose any issues? I assume bringing the lower even if locked separately with no ammo or magazines is still a felony in CA.
Any other advice for those of us who have occasion dangle a toe in CA how to stay put of jail? It occurred to me I'll be heading to Vegas in a few weeks an the direct route does a few CA miles. My research indicates having said AR even if locked in separate inaccessible locations constitutes a felony.
Thanks!
Hayduke
