Bought a stripped lower, where do I go from here?

Bought my first stripped lower online which happens to be my first firearms purchase as well. I chose to pick up in store. What do I need to do now before I'm able to pick it up after the 10 days? Will they automatically run a background check or do I need to let them know?

Research featureless builds, nothing new and plenty of info in this forum.

Your questions are not very clear but it sounds like you paid for an AR lower receiver online and chose the option to pick it up at the dealer which I'm guessing is local to you.

You will now need to go to that dealer to process the paperwork for your new lower receiver. They will require that you show them your Firearms Safety Certificate. The dealer should be able to help you get the test processed and then give you the required certificate if you pass. It's a very basic safety test.

Once you have your certificate, you can then proceed with filling out the paperwork for your new lower. This process is called DROS. The dealer will take all of your info along with your thumb print and file the DROS with the state. I suggest you call whomever you purchased the lower from and have them tell you which documents you are required to bring with you for the DROS. After the DROS is filed, there is a 10 day wait while the state conducts a background check on you to insure that you are not a prohibited person.

If your DROS is approved, you will then pick up your lower receiver after the 10 day wait (some dealers make you wait 11 days).

In the meantime, start studying on this site to learn which parts you can legally use to assemble your riffle. There are some major new laws that went into affect 2 days ago which limit how your new rifle will be able to be configured. You need to focus on what is called a "featureless" rifle build.

        Good luck.

You do understand you will have to build this is a featureless centerfired semiautomatic, a bolt action rifle, or a rim fire with "evil features".
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Sorry just to be clear, who is the "they" you are referring to, and also what specifically do you want them to know?

The question is unclear so you will need to be more specific, before you get flamed.

Or a featured fixed-magazine semiautomatic rifle

cant he build an AR with features as long as he goes with a fixed mag configuration?

I thought you can't buy a stripped lower after 12/21/16 and have to have it in your possession by 12/31/16.

                    Am I missing something?

                      Yes. Everything.

You cannot buy a complete rifle with the evil features... Since a lower has nothing that by itself is considered and assault weapon, it can be assembled as a featureless configuration.

Yes you are, you can still buy stripped lowers.

Any stripped lower in your possession before 12/31/2016 can be registered as "“assault weapon” or featureless.
Any stripped lower in your possession after 12/31/2016 MUST be featureless and NO “removable magazine.”

Did you make arrangements with a FFL to receive the lower ? Usually the shipping and out of state transfer fees adds to much to the overall cost.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Rookie shooter and Blade gunner missed the fixed mag option. Do your own due diligence and see the you tube videos and usesearch on here. I have assembled quite a few and finished some 80% ers I am working on a fixed mag release design right now for my own use. I have a small machineshop that supports my mfg company so I can do this.
